Royal Enfield stall at Auto Expo 2008

Royal Enfield decided to do some thing out of the box and out of the hall this time around, and instead of being a part of the crowd and just displaying new and old motorcycles inside a hall. They decided to go with a touring theme and decide to feature only two motorcycles in their stall (Royal Enfield Thunderbird and Machismo 500 lean burn) and that too old ones! If things weren’t messy enough, they also threw some mud on them!

Apart from these two motorcycles, couple of tents and other camping and some touring gear was also present (not for sale). While I am enthralled by the fact that they went with the touring theme, it would have been more fun if they had showed motorcycle they were about to launch in the Indian market.

But even then I was not as disappointed as I was while I visiting the Hero Honda stall (more on that later).

One thing that I liked even more was the pamphlets they were handing out, apart from listing their Indian production models, it also had a leaflet. The leaflet contains a trip checklist and tips on how to plan your route, which should come in handy for those starting their touring stint. There is also a small map on the back of the leaflet which lists places near Delhi which people can visit. Of course the added bonus was meeting Anant Krishna over there, a fellow tourer and a member of BCMTouring. Kudos to Royal Enfield for hiring people who actually know about the motorcycles and touring, rather than a collage girl who doesn’t even know the difference between torque and horse power!

Couple of pics of the stall:
