How to get Optimum Mileage...
The gear shifts should be in accordance with the speed. Some people think that by going slowly in the top gear increases mileage. Yes surely it increases but at the same time the life span of the engine decreases. The engine faces a lot of strain while doing this activity.

No heavy modifications should be done like keeping a big radial tyre behind, changing the silencer etc,. They reduce the mileage. Because the engine will be accustomed to the previous ones. If you keep a fresh tyre or silencer it takes a period of time for the engine to get accustomed and thus the consumption of petrol rises.

The oil must be changed once in a month. If you give the bike to the service center they will only look after this activity. Because good oil is required for the good performance of the bike.

No wheelies, Stopies must be done. They give a lot of strain to the engine. While doing any of the above the entire pressure will be on one of the tyres. The more the pressure the more the petrol consumption.

The bikes average speed must be around 40 kilometers per hour. The top speed must be 70 kilometers per hour. It should not be exceeded than that.

The quality of petrol should be good. No other constituents must be added in it. For example some people add kerosene to petrol. It damages the engine. I recommend speed. It is of good quality.

For 2 stroke bikes the 2 stroke oil must be correctly added along with the petrol. The best available 2 stroke oil is HP racer 2 oil.

Excessive use of clutch should be avoided. One should not rest his hand on the clutch while in normal riding atleast not on highway rides.

No extra load must be carried. The bikes in India are mostly 2 seaters. So the maximum number persons traveling on a bike must be two.

Ensure that the petrol cap is correctly fixed. Because if it isn’t then the petrol gets evaporated.

Nailing the pedal to the floor in “jackrabbit starts” wastes gas. Abrupt stops also waste fuel—and cause extra wear and tear.

Dirty air filters and oil filters, worn spark plugs, neglected oil changes and problems with the emission-control system can reduce fuel economy. Change your oil and check the filters every 5000 miles for peak performance.

Low tire air pressure is dangerous. It creates a drag on the engine, prematurely wears out tires and burns more gas. Worn wheel bearings or dragging brakes also can reduce fuel economy by 10%.

Stop-and-go traffic takes a drastic toll on fuel usage. If at all possible, plan your trips to avoid periods of peak traffic congestion. Also try to avoid unnecessary idling, which burns more gas than turning off and restarting the engine.

You’ll get slightly more fuel for your dollar if you fill up when it’s cooler outside. (Cooler gasoline is more compact) Over time, the savings can add up!

Nice tips there, though the optimal speed would differ from motorcycle to motorcycle. I find it nearly impossible to ride at 40kmph in fifth gear on my 180.

Indeed. Not only will you get poor performance and be straining the engine, you will also obtain poor FE.
When an engine is being strained it is almost always working in a 'fuel-inefficient' range. Too low a speed in too high a gear, or too high a speed in too low a gear, both will give bad FE.
The fuel efficiency curve is kinda 'bowl-shaped' and only operation in the correct range yields the best FE.

My point is to keep average speeds of 40 kmph while safe zone is extended upto 70 kmph...

@ Sparsh: Its like the filmstars saying we have received inspiration from certain hollywood flick...

Jokes apart... I was searching net for tips since quite some time and on receipt of the reliable tips I have checked them myself and found the difference to be effective, only those tips are mentioned which I found useful/foolproof...

Re: How to get Optimum Mileage...
One point forgotten is "Excessive braking" and hard acceleration .

Solution to it smart throttle control and optimum use of engine braking.

It cant be avoided during a race/event. But you arent looking for mileage then either!

Thanks for addition but I think I have covered...

"Nailing the pedal to the floor in “jackrabbit starts” wastes gas. Abrupt stops also waste fuel—and cause extra wear and tear. "

Pedal here is in context of a car and not bike....

No mention of peak torque rpm and all? Thank god the contest is over, finally people will stop posting just for the sake of it.
