Hero cycles to manufacture electric 2 wheelers
UK-based Ultra Motor Company (UMC) and Hero Cycles Limited (HCL) today signed an agreement to manufacture and market electric two-wheelers in India by January 2007.

Under the technical collaboration-cum-joint marketing agreement, UMC will provide electric vehicle (EV) technology, kit, including UMC patented ultra-motor electronic controller, and marketing support, Ultra Motor India MD V J Prakash said.

HCL will be responsible for assembly, manufacturing and service, the statement said.

Both UMC and HCL will also mutually work towards developing the EV business in India by investing in joint marketing of these ultra-powered electric two-wheelers and also setting up a retail and service infrastructure.

i think there is a lot of potential even for e-car, let alone e-bike, but govt. has to take some tax burden off the e vehicle manufacturers.
take the example of reva, india's only e-car which sadly has the price tag equals to a new maruti 800.

Government has to give some incentives or provide subsidies to ensure prices are kept on the lower side in starting. later on mass production will take care of rest.

did anyone check the ad of this new Hero cycle with electric motor?

Another problem here about electric cars not doing well is because people are not well aware of electric cars, some even ask more question than one can answer and manufacturer shud think about praticality when they want to mass produce a car.Reva can be a good example.....even a 5 foot guy can't sit inside a car.

Hacket, I am 5'11 and fit inside a reva. Yes, unlike a City, I could not sleep nor put two suitcases between my feet, but its okay.

Real thing is cost, about 3 lakhs, for a vehicle that tops at 60-70kph and 80km range!

cmon man

This is going a bit OT, please use the following topic to discuss about Reva

Reva, a practical replacement to petrol cars?
