Which type of buses do you prefer?
Which type of buses do you prefer to take while traveling? Do you like to take buses from a travel company, state tourism ones or state transport buses?
I normally like to take state transport buses while I travel, because they are normally cheapest of the lot, most often have the maximum number of buses running on the route and normally their drivers sanest of the lot.

As long as there is no COMPULSARY video (& loud audio), it is fine! I particularly hate it when public in the bus will not let you open your curtain because light will come in - they want the bus interior DARK as a cinema hall!

Re: Which type of buses do you prefer?
Well...mostly I have travelled on Jaipur-Delhi-Kurukshetra circuit, that too 4-5 years ago when I was doing Engineering. At that time the Rajasthan's state owned buses were the best. Although they took their own time, & were a bit costly as compared to other state operators, but for sure they maintained their time schedules, & the staff was also polite.
On Delhi-Jaipur Circuit, the volvos operated by rajasthan govt. r the best bet, given clear roads, it takes from jaipur to delhi 4.5 to 5 hours, which i think is reasonable.

Re: Which type of buses do you prefer?
Anup sir you are right, I also hate video coaches. I love staring out of the bus window throughout the journey. A tip for any one heading to Dharamshala or Manali, in case you are planning to take the state transport bus, make sure you take the Haryana ones and not the Himachal ones. Since Himachal road transport buses start acting like a local bus when they enter Himachal Pradesh and thus can get quite crowded.

good suggestion !!
but one doubt ??
dont you think traveling in Himachal bus is safer than Haryana's as the drivers may be more trained for the particular terrain ????
even i like the state transport buses .. they are cheaper and safer then pvt operators..
also you get oppurtunity to talk with the locals of that area.
P.S. - just back from Urgam valley, near joshimath in Uttarakhand.
travelling done in state roadways and Garhwal mandal buses.

Re: Which type of buses do you prefer?
I have used all kinds of buses... Private Luxury Coaches, Private Volvos, State Transport as well as Intracity Buses...
But all these are mostly used for journeys that aren't more than of 3-4 hrs... So I don't have problem with any sort of buses unless they carry passengers more than its capacity...
On my maiden trip to Ladakh this year... I had travelled in Tempo Traveller which can also be compared to minibus but was pretty good... I wan't tired at all... But this might not apply to everyone... journey is tough and long (16-18 Hrs)

In case of interior Himachal roads where the roads get too narrow, yes. But for Manali, Shimla, Dharamshala etc. Haryana bus driver are ok. Also they get you to your destination faster than Himachal buses because they stop less and drive fast especially on highways, where I have personally seen a Haryana transport bus doing well over 100kmph!
Ps. post the pics and triplogs soon.
