How fuel efficient is your car or two-wheeler? Chances are you don't know or have only a foggy idea, based on what brochures collected from showrooms said.

And they don't even factor in the difference between "test conditions" and real-life ones. By the year-end though, the government will make your job easier.

Under a voluntary scheme, vehicles are set to carry "star rating labels" that will specify how much fuel each model consumes and how well each fares in comparison to others in the same range. The government will certify as much.

Star rating? I have absoluetly no idea how that would work, especially when you have vehicles which do 70+kmpl and 5kmpl.

^ just like what we have 'star ratings' on air conditioners sold these days.
More stars means the bike/car is more fuel effcient and teh opposite. which means most people buying decision will be based on star ratings and not on the brand preference.

Start rating on electronic devices is totally different from automobiles. Simple gyan can't be applied in case of automobiles. Moreover as YS said there's huge range. There are lots of variables too. Lets see how it shapes up. Also this being a voluntary scheme only god knows if automobile manufacturers will follow it or not.
