hyundai i10
after hearing about hyundai launching getz with a diesel engine i was excited about this vehicle especially considering its gonna be the zippiest hatchback in India, but after driving a friend's petrol getz i was disappointed, as like santro any corner above 60kmph means tyres squeaking and worst of all total road feedback of every bump in the spine. But recently after taking a test drive of its latest offering i10, i must say it was as different in handling as amitabh bacchan is from his son in acting. class apart, and miles ahead in terms of comfort and drivability.
Exterior styling is new and not its not a hero honda job kinda thing, totally new exterior shell. But sadly gone are the days when every new car looked different and you can recognize a car just by having a glimpse of a few milliseconds, now you really have to look for a few seconds to recognize a car, and i10 is no different from the current lot of new small cars.
interior is refreshingly new, not unlike this review which is a tad late. i liked the smooth integration of gear shift console in dashboard. Interior quality has always been hyundai's niche in small cars and hatchbacks. once you open its boot it is quite evident so as rather then having a loose carpet stapled into, its got panels which seems to last its life and concealing all ugly metal parts.
Front Leg space is little bit less then santro but still comfortable, but it sure has got more better seats and its position and has got better visibility for the road.
engine is peppy and responsive, pulling from as low as 1500rpm even with a/c on. hyundai opting for electronic power steering rather then the conventional hydraulic power steering has made it a joy to maneuver. feather light i can say, but responsive i must add, gear shift was much unlike hyundai, butter smooth and very precise , although the short throw lever does makes it feel a bit fragile for my liking.
In short its a drivers delight, and if you are a kind of a person who wants to crawl in traffic every day, but still manages to find a weekend to blast out of city for a long ride, its gotta be this. small car, easy to drive, good service backup, good quality, refined engine.
Now, will i recommend it- hell yes, its a sure winner.
will this means an end to santro as speculated - i don't think so, they both holds their cards.

Re: hyundai i10
i10 has been a success and hyundai is doubling up the capacity to meet up the demand, have heard of plans to replace Getz with i20. I just hope the diesel version is retained.

Re: hyundai i10
Looks like Manik's account got hacked and the hacker is spamming on the behalf of Hyundai .
On a serious note, good review , even though i10 isn't strikingly different, it does look good.
Ps. whats up with all those silly ads by Shahrukh Khan?

Re: hyundai i10
Thet have paid up SRK for a long term ad contract so they need to use him, after all he is a celebrity; Hyundai guys think santro sells because of SRK, then they must be kidding...

Re: hyundai i10
I cant believe it - that doesnt sound like Manik at all.
Manik, did you try the 1.1 Getz or 1.3? We'd tried 1.3 before buying our Indica Xeta - that is goood.
At the same time, try Getz diesel. It can squeak wheels in every gear. Pulls like a horse. Speaking of which, let's have a small get together where we go about TD'ing cars/bikes and just generally have a good bakar time thrashing them
Wotsay?
PS: Try spark - gives about 2kpl more, and as good in rear seat - plus cheaper.
PPS: Heard from tbhp that Spark LS comes with airbags/ABS as option. That makes it a very neat car (some <4.5 onroad should get you all the goodies) for the price.

So i10 won all those awards for nothing.

Re: hyundai i10
Hey i own a Spark LS but did not go for a Optional pack as when u try to bring the car on the kacha road then i am not very confident with alloys than the regular wheel set and also the crash test and all the other kinda tests are done with the regular wheels not on alloys as they are used for adding frill purpose ...
Spark Optional pack is having Alloys and ABS ... ** not sure if GM is now offering Air bags also .. !!
rest you can check with the review ..
Regards
Rahul

heard a lot about it, can you divulge some details like, is its i10 with diesel engine or some thing like i30 uk model.
@hits: tried a friends 1.1
and was surely disappointed with handling, it cannot hold its line during a bump and neither can forgive a pothole. only thing in its favor is cabin space. 5 people , no problem.

Re: hyundai i10
@Manik: - Saw it in Car and bike show on NDTV 24X7, news about i20 coming up soon, as a replacement of Getz... IMO hyundai should get us CRDi engine for i10 and i20 too...
