Chevy Aveo 1.4LS :OR: Tata Indigo XL (D)
hello,

need your opinions about these two different league cars...

Chevy Aveo 1.4LS
:OR:
Tata Indigo XL (D)

we, as a family of 4 (might get 5 in few months ) are looking for a new car for daily commute... and this time we do needs a boot to keep that luggage!

we've already stretched our budget to INR6.75Lakhs max... but to draw a line we can inch it ahead to 7.00, but this will be an herculean task!
[this is so coz i'll be getting a bike too... that will eat close to a lakh of my money! ]

well,
-the new upcoming Baleno will be way out of our reach...
- Fiesta is not so gud in petrol, its too gud in diesel, but its too costly for us...
- Accent is old and hmmm, bekaar!
- NHC is also very much costlier for our budget...
- hmmmm... no other car is in view!

so,
our weekdays city travel ranges between 40-50 kms per day
and 2-3 trips in a month ranging to about 150-200 kms...
so the monthly run crosses 1500+ kms easily.

hence both diesel and petrol are potential options!

i m aware of indigo's maintenance and the aveo's cost of ownership/running...
wat i want to know from you guys is that whether you had tested them anywhere for a gud distance to judge them properly?

i have driven indigo to Agra couple of times... and is a gud cruiser on highways... but, it is very easily recognised as a diesel car, due to noise/vibes and slow response.

i have not yet even tried any of the above mentioned cars (Aveo1.4 & Indigo XL)... did any of you tried them?
if yes, then please let me know abt your "personal" experiences.

our top most priorities this time are:
- seating comfort of 4 people (at times 5!)
- cruising ability on highways (read 100+ kmph whole day!)
- ease of getting service and spares around NCR
- easy on pocket
- peace of mind!
[did u noticed abt no performance requirements this time ]

please help me deciding a suitable car in range of 6.75lakhs...
and if you have any other options, please inform me abt that!

Hi Sachin,

If I were I your shoes I would have gone in for the Aveo. The aveo has better spare & morst important its not a Tata. I cant explain but I nevre recommend Tata. My cousin's husband had to change all the tyres at just 13k kms on his Indica V2 diesel.

The only things you should check for in Aveo:

- The left knee for some people reportedly touches the center panel
- The dashboard has lot of reflection on windscreen so check that whether its within acceptble milts or not
- The gear shift is notchy & not very nice in its class

My friend owns a 1.4 Aveo & is very happy with the ride quality, mileage(15-17 with ac on highway, city aroun 10-12) interiors, space, boot space, eauipment level & finish quality.

Let me what you decide & shoot more question if you have

@Techno: thanx for the reply!

i have tried sitting in aveo, but cud not get a test drive as of now, and yes, the left knee problem persists!

cud not checked that dash reflection problem though... will check that once i gets a feel of the car!

and do you have any other car to suggest in the budget of 6.75 or so?

@others: c'mon... brush up your 4-wheeled gray cells and post some useful info!

sachin jee,why not look at Hundai verna perhaps?
If you looking at the Indigo,it will be revamped soon with a DICOR engine, wait till that arrives.
@tecno,dont recommend a car because tyres wears out fast?

@hacket: 13k for replacing tyres is way too low by any standards for an Indian car. Besides I am not happy with the plastic quality of Tatas. Besdies that I have heard couple of horro stories from Tata owners & few of them are running in courts.

Indica icor could be good option provided users dont have to do the beta testing

I belive the diesel Verna is more VFM than petrol but out of budget for Sachin

@sachin: Current Baleno went out of production though they are vailable at stocks remaining at Dealers.

Other options strcitly as per price(& not as per ur list )

- Swift Diesel (for low runnig costs)

- Getz (For awesome space)

- Safari LXi (I belive ths is within your budget)

- Mahindra-Renault Logan (It will be priced below 6L with decent space, not a looker though)
Here is a pic of one which I spotted in Lonavla where they were shooting its advert
Here is the pic with me looking at the car (click on the thumbnail)

This is also one of the most awaited launches of the year

Two other cars which you might consider:

Esteem: good engine, good FE, has boot, low maitainance, poor image, weak body

Accent: decent performer, good when you are not looking for a performance sedan, good space, easy maintainance.

But yes out of all these Aveo is the most lucrative

@hacket:
verna petrol is a car within my budget... but its looks are so disgusting that even my mom rejected it! [& her decision is worth top priority, even dad cant deny that! ]
and as per my taste, the petrol verna is nothing in front of its diesel sibling, which is again out of bounds!
so i'd go for aveo instead of a petrol verna.

and regarding Indigo XL,
Quote:
The Indigo XL comes with a choice of two new advanced 1.4 litre engines - the refined 16 valve Twin Cam petrol version churning out 101 PS, and the silent, high torque 70 PS DICOR (common rail) diesel version. Available in just the featured packed Grand trim level across the country, the petrol Indigo XL is priced at Rs.6.70 lakhs, while the common rail diesel version is priced at Rs.7.35 lakhs (both ex-showroom Delhi)

@techno:
thanx again!

hey, which Safari u're referring to? P or D?

and yes 13K or so is way too less figure for tyre replacement. dad's office cars (mainly indicas!) also sports new tyres every other day! a chat with some chauffeurs confirmed that these cars still needs a front tyre replacement very soon, despite of regular rotation of tyres!

verna petrol is nothing in looks... but i m in love with its diesel version, but our wallet is way too thin for that!

old baleno's looks were never upto my liking... so never thought of that!

and THANX a lot for that sexy spy-pic of Renault!! although its not sure how will it fare in our country, but still at this price it'll create a furore for atleast sometime!

esteem... lol, that was good joke!
accent, well... read my comment above

even esteem is ok,meets most of your priorities but everything on it is dated!

@techno,i have heard such stories about tata cars, but on teh other hand taxies(indicas)clocking like anything within short period of time.

Wow sachin so am not the only one who thinks verna looks weird if not ugly

Sorry I am not sure which Safari P or D

yeah petra sounds good too

So I guess Aveo it is

Check the websites for prices, i am thoda busy else would have posted

@hacket: the running costs for diesel indicas are so low that the taxi operators are not worried about the recurring costs.
