Diesel Swift to come next week
After some delay, Maruti Udyog on Friday said it will launch a diesel version of Swift next week. MUL MD Jagdish Khattar said the company is also expanding its diesel engine manufacturing capacities from one lakh units now to three lakh engines.

"We are scaling up capacity by increasing our investment to Rs 2500 crore from Rs 1500 crore at the diesel engine plant, which went on stream September last year," Khattar said.

Although Maruti had rolled out diesel versions on the Zen and Esteem by importing the engines, Khattar said this is the first time the company will get a first hand experience with the diesel engines at its India plant.

Khattar, however, clarified the Fiat 1.3 litre diesel engines — to be used on the Swift — will be different from the multi-jet, 1.3 litre engine as Fiat and Fiat-Tata Motors vehicles. Maruti is manufacturing the 1.3 diesel engine from Fiat under license from Fiat.

no its not like that!

look at the performance of that zen diesel... it was way too capable despite of its small size and unbalanced heavy weight!
it was delivering near to 18 kmpl in city drives!!!
and they were selling it in gud numbers... but since indica was available, they just cud not hamper tata's sales only due to the space factor.

i have seen many a diesel zens' engines being fitted in other bigger cars like esteem and M-1000!!

and the swift is coming with fiat's proven diesel engine known as 1.3-Multijet...!!

if they prices it decently, then i m sure it'll change the petrol swift's sales figures tremendously!

@yogesh:
this machine will churn out 69bhp and not 75! check that again!
