With its compact car offensives ? Aveo U-Va and Spark ? ready to burn rubber on India roads, General Motors is now preparing to take on competition in the premium end of the burgeoning Indian car bazaar.
As part of this strategy, GM India plans to roll out luxury sedan Chevrolet Epica in India in early 2008. The Epica ? expected to sport a price tag between Rs 15 lakh and Rs 18 lakh ? will be positioned to take on rivals like Honda Accord and Hyundai Sonata in the market.
?The year 2007 will mark GM India's entry into the mainstream car markets with Spark and Optra diesel. In the next year, we plan to introduce premium segment cars and the roll-out will begin with Chevrolet Epica,? a source said.
