May be they can make available employment to J&K people by providing them opportunities to open STD booths

I would say it is a wise move and should have come earlier!
Why? When the government doesn't allows prepaid cards from outside the state to work there, why should the prepaid cards be locally available, especially when everyone knows that it is quite easy to procure one, under someone else's name! |

The idea is to get everybody to go for post-paid connections, with properly verified mailing addresses. There have been serious concerns about SIM cars being misused by terror groups in the border state, esp to communicate with allies in Pakistan.

Not only terrorists, but also other criminals as well. As far as I have heard and seen, it is relatively easy to buy pre activated prepaid cards, without any address proof.

But haven't they made address verification mandatory for pre-paid as well?

A country where city bus drivers and lorry drivers from the biggest transport companies routinely 'abscond' after an accident!!
Never to be found, LOL!! What verifications are we talking about? |

Here is how much verification is done of the prepaid mobile phone subscribers and how seriously do these mobile phone companies take these issues, Idea mobile phone connection sucks! | Yogesh Sarkar's Blog
With a postpaid they have to do verification, else risk loosing money, so the government is right on track in banning prepaid mobile phone connections. |

Even though one of my connection is prepaid and rest of my family members use prepaid connections, if it is required for national security, I wouldn't mind.
