We have a thread where people share the maximum number of kilometers they have done, a thread where folks tell us the maximum speed they have attained.
So I thought of putting up this thread where people can share the toughest ride (in a particular day) that they have gone through, which is part of any trip undertaken . Where skill, patience, endurance and fitness were all put to test, at maximum. Something you rate the highest on the toughness scale! I'll start with mine. Kaza - Batal - Chattru - Manali - Chandigarh : 530 kms, 22 hrs Out of the 530 kms, 460 was in hills. This done on the last day of my spiti trip. I had to reach office on sunday and thus I did this on a saturday! 18 of those 22 hrs were spent in riding on river beds/dirt/portions of black ice/rocks/mud & slush, and finally negotiating every corner and twisty with precision, on the last leg! The ride that I completed yesterday (Udaipur - Chandigarh, 1000 kms, 20 hrs) too had me floored, but it was more tiring than tough, one which involved kilometer after kilometer riding on long straight roads, where I was just munching miles and nothing else, and hence does not come even close to the ride stated above. Waiting for you to share yours

Well, My toughest and most unconceivable ride was my only ride record till date, Delhi-Nainital, which I attempted at the naive age of 18 way back in 2006. It took me 92 hours
22 Breakdowns in sweltering heat of April, Some in mid of outskirts of Jim Corbett, most fearful silence I ever experienced, Our bodies were ready to give themselves away , My soul in me, was barely left as a tenant, a series of most unlucky events made that ride not only the toughest but also traumatized me for next 4 years (till now |

a little different perspective here.
My toughest ride was one of the Delhi Chandigarh run, an year back, with Kidney Stone pain on all the time. Had 6 Meftal Spas and around 8-9 stops in 230 Km, took around 9 Hrs, which takes 4-5 hours. Meftal Spas and Voveron has been my regular companion since then |

My toughest ride in a day is also one of my shortest. around 170kms in 14hrs from Pang to Leh. I started from Pang at 7am with my rain gear on as it was raining. There was a small bend in the rear alloy wheel of my R15 which allowed the air to escape very quickly. Depending upon the altitude I had to fill in air at an interval of around every 5-7kms. Worst stretch came at Tanglang La where it was freezing cold and I had to pump in air every single km for 20kms (10kms ascend and 10kms descend) while crossing it.
It was raining all the way to Leh but it so cold at Tanglang La that the rain droplets were falling in form of ice. My gloves and shoes were all wet and I had almost frozen and sensationless limbs. The road was all broken and the rain made it worse. Idea of getting my R15 to Leh in a truck did cross my mind at once but I rejected it. I don't know what kept me motivated to carry on with riding. I think it were the well wishes of my loved ones and the guidance of fellow BCMTians. Riding with flat tyre on those unprotected muddy roads at that height was really a scary experience and gives me goose bumps even till date.

Rode along with Vaibhav that day and would agree this was a tough ride.
Riding downhill on iced out white roads and then riding almost all night to get back to NH22, thats the toughest one till date for me though. Link of the ride report is in my signature. Cheers, Shamik |

Mine was with my dad as Pillion.
Needed to cover ~300 kms with 1 and half hours of day light and it was drizzling. We were descending down from Talacauvery to Hunsur. Though some 40 and odd kms only were in hills, road widening work caused 4 ft ditch on one side and more than 10 ft ditch on the other side and adding to the woe was slush. Even after reaching plains, the drizzling continued and reached Mysore @ 9 pm. Still had 138 kms to cover and reached Home at 1.00 am next day. Took four hours to complete 138 kms. One hell of a ride it was. Cheers, Shankar
