Hiring a SUV(4X4) - LEH - Need Help

Hi,

I am planning to hire a self-driven 4X4 SUV from Delhi or Chandigarh for a trip to LADAKH. Below are the questions I have:
1) Will I be able to get permits from the DC office at Leh for all those restricted areas in Ladakh?
2) I read that Taxi plate vehicles are not allowed beyond Leh. Is it applicable for Self-driven cars too?
3) Kindly suggest any Car Rentals where I can get a SUV(4X4) Vehicle on hire.

Please help

1. You will get the permit, whether you will be able to drive in to those areas, without any trouble, is quite an another matter.

2. As long as you can make the taxi union people understand that it is not a taxi, but a rented car, I guess you will be able to make it through.

3. I doubt many if any rental companies will have 4x4 available for rent, though an MUV/SUV would certainly be available. Frankly a 4x4 is not required, however if you still want one and can't find it anywhere in Delhi, let me know. I know a travel agent in Manali, who rents one out, though it is only for Manali - Leh stretch.

3. I am looking for a 4X4 because I want to try W'La and M'La. Do you think these can be done with out 4X4??

2. You only need to talk to them, if they stop you anywhere.

3. Wari La is certainly doable, especially from the Shakti side. Marsimik La, well it can certainly be attempted. You need to be careful about the line you pick and not to overstress the vehicle.

It is possible, however that would only be till Leh. From there you will have hire another vehicle. For cost, check with Naushad from Antrek Tours. I haven't used his services personally, but from what I have heard, he does provides this option.

Just for Info,Does Jhajzzz(confused about spelling) rent out vehicles for long periods?

They have some amazing Gypsies and Jeeps in their line up.
