Hey i am new to BCM Touring and i feel that this is a great and a initiative well taken....I am an engineering student at NIT kurukshetra
I have always been interested in going on road trip....but dont have a bike with me at the college(its at home in gujarat)....an t thats too a bajaj discover(not my choice my father wanted an economy bike)..... I want to go on a road trip to Leh ladak for which either i have an option of renting a bike but i guess that would be too costly....i read in one of the threads that the cost of the bike has to be deposited and that would be too costly.....and i would not be buying a bike until a year when i get a job.... So could anyone please arrange a bike.... i am ready pay a suitable rent And please i would also want to know what would be the total cost of the trip considering Kurukshetra is somewhere about 40 km before amnbala..... Obviously i would be trying to get a bike from my local jugaad....but please please if there could be any arrangement for a bike the n i would be very thankful...... |

Topic moved to Hiring Cars and Motorcycles in India.
Alok welcome to BCMTouring. The biggest cost for you would be motorcycle rent, as it can cost anywhere from Rs. 400-1000 depending on the motorcycle and your bargaining powers. With respect to security deposit, most renters will accept half of the security deposit as check and rest as cash. One exception is the renters in Leh, who as far as I have heard, don’t require you to place any security deposit. So you can travel to Manali and take a shared taxi to Leh and then rent motorcycles from there for various excursions. This would actually come out to be a cheaper option than renting from Delhi, Chandigarh or Manali. Apart from rent of the motorcycle and petrol, expect to spend at least Rs. 300-350 a day on food and accommodation, if you are traveling solo. In case you are traveling with a friend, it would be further reduced because you’ll be sharing accommodation costs. Ps. why not take the discover? |

Best bet is to reach ladakh through shared vehicles/bus and from there hire good bike (400 - 800 depending on the bike)... Ride it there for a few days and come back... Most importantly take along a Voter's ID Card or some other Govt. ID Card which the renter would keep as guarantee (yes you won't have to deposit any money, other than rent that is to be paid in advance)...
Hope this helps... Last edited by Prasham; 03-05-08 at 10:40 AM. |

and 500 for food and accomodation and 500 for petrol..... So it would turn out to be 1400/- per day.... A total of around 6000/-.....and is this calculation right and i would have taken the discover but i think the bike doesn't suits me... It was not my choice to buy it at the first place.... @ Sans4ve.... so nice too see that BCMT got members from kkr also... would surely like to meet you sometime.... |

As for fuel, well like I said, it would depend on the kind of mileage you will get. If you are starting from Kurukshetra, then you will be doing a minimum riding of 1800-1900kms |

Best bet is to find a Bull in good condition and ride it all the way to K-Top, If it doesn't give any trouble enroute, you can stay sure about the quality of the bike... Incase you find some trouble return it and try your hand on some other bike/renter... Try hiring bike from Planet Himalaya (Mr. K T Phuntsog) Paul House, Zangsti, Leh Ph: 9419218249 / 9906999906 E-mail: phuntsoggopa@hotmail.com Has fleet of bulls and tbs |
