Hotel Mayur, Shimla
We stayed at the Hotel Mayur, which is located on The Ridge in Shimla, right behind the Christ Church.
We got a room on the second floor of the hotel, which provided us with a nice view of the Christ Church and Shimla.   Overall the room was clean, though the main blanket wasn't and we had to use the secondary blankets (there were three of them) from the cupboard, which were clean. Here are a couple of photographs of the room we stayed in.   Staff and service was decent and the breakfast we got served in the room, was pretty ok as well. While the hotel has a lift (be cautious of its doors), the hotel itself is accessible, only after you climb couple of stories worth of stairs. The worst thing they have is the in house tour operator (or the one who comes in daily), who is not only over eager and a bit too aggressive to push his tours, but also has drivers who are only interested in finishing off with the tour ASAP so that they can go back and get some other bakra! I guess so, initially we thought it was tad on the higher side, but I guess it is fine by Shimla standard.

Very slim chance of getting a room there, unless you book in advance. Since after fire, they only have four rooms.
