Default Eco huts, Pangong Tso (Lukung), Ladakh

I have stayed in Eco Huts at Pangong Tso (Lukung) twice during the past two rides to Ladakh.

Accommodation available at the Eco Huts is quiet basic with just mattresses on the floor and only solar powered lamps, torches or candle available for illumination at night. Toilet is in the form of all the area around you or if you are lucky, camping style toilet. One can however get warm water in the morning for washing one's face by requesting the caretaker.

Edit: situation has improved:

Then why did I choose to stay at Eco Huts again in 2007?

For one the view is simply fantastic with Pangong Tso only a few hundred meters away. One can also get good quality tents for rent, however considering the high velocity cold winds at night; it might not be the best to be so adventurous.

Food is available at the centrally located dhaba tent, which is cheap though not quite delicious.

Rate: mainly depends on your bargaining skills and on the number of tourists around, however you can easily get the room for Rs. 150 per person and a room can easily accommodate 2-3 persons.

Vicky didn’t try that, there is also a smaller hill on the left hand side which can be climbed with the motorcycle.

At night it gets pretty cold and windy, I had spent couple of hours outside the room in 2006 trying to capture the full moon and Pangong Tso and the cold was bone chilling to say the least.

Here is a pic of the moonlit Pangong Tso (could manage only this due to the pathetic 4 second exposure of my cam)

But if you are looking for a the hill top view and want to do some long walks/ride around the lake, then Tso Moriri is much better option than Pangong Tso.

Yogesh you dont need long sec exposure for full moon... just f/8, 1/120 to 1/250 would get you a gr8 full moon. see the image below . i have shot this at F/8, 1/250sec exposure....so i guess try again with your camera and you will get the desired result. Yeah you would surely ned a tripod for that.

So there is no toilet, you have to go out and be one with nature... I guess thats not a pleasant thought at 7am in the morning in september....
any place with toilet within 10-15kms of Panagong Tso?

You will find a few guesthouses, some 30 kms before pangong, at a place called Tangste.
