Laura, welcome!
Is it only Goa that you intend to visit or are there other places you're planning on?

Generally trains and buses are the safest mode of transportation in India. Quite economical too!
If these services do not exist in some areas it would be best to use shared taxis.

Hi,

I intend in travel to Goa only and would want to stay in a pretty upscale Hotel. Are buses and Trains Safe for a western woman travelling alone?

Thanks,

Laura, buses and trains are safe, but do keep your wits about you.

If you are willing to travel only in Goa I suggest you use Train (2 Tier AC Class) for Mumbai - Goa - Mumbai or Delhi - Goa - Delhi.

For travelling in Goa I suggest you hire a gearless scooter like Activa (if you know how to ride it) which is quite economic as well as gives us liberty as well as safety.

As far as hotels are concerned Goa has lots of hotels to suit every budget. Few years back I had stayed in Majorda Beach Resort which is located on Majorda Beach. It has a private beach and a very luxurious setup. In season you may expect about INR 4000 PP / PD on MAP plans. There are other hotels/resorts from Taj, Ramada, Holiday Inn and loads of other reputed groups but most of these would have budgets in excess of INR 5000 in season.

Hi,

Just want know which month you are traveling, if it is in April, it will be off season for goa. So rate will be on lower side for all category of hotel, stay for minimum 3 nights / 4 days & go for hotel package whichever you select, hotel people will give you transfer from Daboliam airport or railway station & they will also give sightseeing of goa by coach.

Or else you can have option of hiring car or bike, you ca get in touch with hotel travel desk for same.

Some of the hotels name which i can suggest.
5*
1) Park Hyatt 2) Leela 3) Taj holiday village 4 ) Taj exortica. 5) Ramada caravela 5) Radisson 6) Majorda 7) Cida de Goa Marriott.

4*
1) Heritage village 2) Bay watch 3) Lazy Lagoon 4) Sun village 5) Fortune

3*
1) Paradise village 2) Whispering palms 3) Goan Heritage. 4) Phoenix park Inn

For transportation from Mumbai – Goa – Mumbai as Anup sir said you can select train option, its overnight journey. Even flight option will be there its 2 hours from Mumbai and if you books tickets earlier you can get good deal.

Hope this will help you…..
