Default Heavy snowfall at Baralacha La

Today at 5:30 PM, DD news, in its state news section, from Shimla reported heavy snowfall at Baralacha La temporarily closing the Manali-Leh highway. Snowfall at places in HP was also reported.

Any first hand/further info ??

Don't know about the news item, but I returned from Leh on Sept 2, and experienced frequent showers in the city prior to my return. It rained even on the 1st, the start of the Leh festival, but cleared up just in time... We encountered heavy snowfall and temperatures below -10 degrees at Chang la, while it rained all afternoon at Pangong Tso. Maybe the effects of climate change are slowly beginning to show, as the Leh-Manali route opened rather early this time, and signs are that it might close down before schedule too.

Hi Guys,

Right at this moment I am at manali going to Leh. And just got the news that Rohtand pass is closed. Apart from barcha-la, rohtang pass is also closed. Yesterday it had season's first snowfall.

Waiting for this to open. Update here if get any chance.

Must be the earliest ever snowfall. I faced snowfall on October 2 in the year 2004.

And I was there 14 days later, after the second round of snowfall, couldn't make it to the top due to Rani Nallah but went up to it on my motorcycle, without any gloves

I think it is time we call it the 08 curse, just spoke to Bhuwan paaji, he is in Leh and kind of stuck there! Khardung La and Chang La are no go due to heavy snowfall and More Plains is a complete mess and Tanglang La too has nice layer of snow. It has been raining heavily in Leh and surrounding areas and the hills around Shanti Stupa have snow!

Looks like Mother Nature is hell bent on making 08 touring extra adventures and sadly for the first time in four years, I am at home in September
