Road to Dodra Kwar via Chanshal Pass has been declared open for traffic this Saturday.

The states last frontier Dodra Kwar is to be connected by road on Saturday as the government prepares to officially declare the 61 Km road that goes over the Chanshal Pass into the land locked valley open for motorable transport.

“Chief minister Prem Kumar Dhumal would declare the road open on Saturday,” said Thakur Gulab Singh, minister for public works. The road to this remote valley in Shimla district bordering Uttrakhand has been constructed at a cost of Rs 27 crore, he added.

Is it doable with small Car or only a SUV can do this stretch??

Should be doable at the moment, after rain or in winter it wouldn't be possible.

Used to be only MUV track with the last few kms to Chanshal Pass unmotorable!
Walk only.

What is the 'almost'? How many kms?
I have not been able to find accounts of cars doing Chanshal.
The last few kms was a trek.
IIRC, about 35 kms was motorable and the last 5 kms had to be walked.

It was always there, I know a biker from Delhi, who did make it to the top last year on his Enfield. Even in 2005 bikers had made it to the top, it just that, road only used to stay open till the pwd was working on it. Once they used to go away, locals used to block the road as it wasn't approved by the local goddess. Only last year the road received the blessing and now they have stopped blocking it with trees and rocks.
