Most people that do Delhi-Manali in a day's time start early morning by around 4 am or so... Otherwise getting through delhi's traffic becomes a big trouble. Moreover you will have to climb hills in the dark which is highly unrecommended
BTW bilaspur onwards road is full of ghat type "twisties" with some traffic as well. So Bilaspur - Manali may take more time that you may have estimated. If you guys are bringing your bikes by train or cargo... make the start point to be Ambala. Most trains and cargo services have it on the route.

.. with the term "low capacity bike" i thought about Platina, CT-100.etc.. i mean to say that in those terrains, its better to ride bikes having much weight, but not too much.. like my Apache is 139kgs when empty tank and no extras.. i think its better to have mag wheels than Spoke.. because we are going to ride in jumpy and bumpy roads too, so i think, just in case if we have an accident, hard jerk from front or sumthing like that the spoked wheels may get bend and the mag wheels wont.. so i prefer mag wheels first... i think gladiater will work.. but pulsar will be better.. in pulsar you wont get better fuel Average than in gladiater... and you are rite, we are more comfortable with our own bikes... its up to you, take which ever bike you wish... take a look here, these are photos from my trip to Lahul, Kinnaur, Spiti in may-June 2009.. i mean, just see the roads in there, i guess we may have even harder roads or a small strech in our trip.. Picasa Web Albums - Roxx - My Study Imag... So, just think if your bike can bear the pain.. i am not a late riser, i hate sleeping untill i am tired or something like that... sorry, it was a mistake in calculating... we will start early or may be too early... and i wish to reach manali before evening.. we sud do it in a day's time... if i had to ride alone then i would start at about 2am from Delhi and also have a photo session in the morning..!! i didnt said for stay between Delhi-Manali.., i just wanted to confirm.. a night halt in Chandighad will be a waste of time... my capacity to Ride is about 52Hours normally, i am Riding to Bangalore and Delhi with no night halts.. it takes about 16hours for delhi and 30hours for Bangalore since November 2008... i am not afraid of snow.. in la's there will be snow, i wanna see the snow everywhere, even next to the roads we ride... i need to think if we are gonna ride in July... i may not be able to get leave in july...

Roxx,
Gladi weight 117 kg in dry. 130 kg with full tank. Me is 72 kg and luggage is not going to be more than 25 kg. Hope it won't let me down. You are MAD BIKER. 52 hrs without halt. Only Serious bike rider can do that. I will be more surprised if you did not got a change of clutch plates. I mean to say WHY YOU ARE AFRAID NOT TO HAVE SNOW IN JULY. It was not that you are afraid of snow. What is the probable time you get leave. As far as I know paths to leh opened in mid of June. So think abt it. I am in service sector by work. My company & I do salary processing. Last five years I did not get any leave beyond 20th and before 30/31 even 5th of the next month. So my only chance of having leave is from 3rd to max 20/21 of the month. Aug there are 2 important days in my life. 15th is Anniversary , 29th my Baby's birth dayLast edited by lifebyroad; 16-12-09 at 05:11 AM. |
