I am planning to bring a bike from mumbai to delhi. Which mode do you suggest is best suited/practical and economical as well.
a.) Ride from mumbai to delhi (with one night break)
b.) Transport the same in train/truck.

Transportation charge alone may be around 1800/-. (Bangalore - Delhi is 2400 railway kms and charge is approx, 2400/-, Mumbai - Delhi is 1772kms), Plus ur ticket charge depending upon the class of travel

By road 1400kms (am I right on this ??)... A little tough thing but off course doable in two days with a night break

Calculate your mileage, cost and see ur comfort level.

Wouldn't recommend it in the middle of summer, otherwise it is entirely upto you.

This weekend i went to Majestic Railway station to get the approximate cost for shipment of my bike.
I'll be traveling in Rajdhani from Bangalore to Delhi and bike will be shipped wit me. They asked me what's the declared value of bike, i said approx 90K. They(agents) suggested to declare 20-30K and shipping cost will be 3,200 rupees.

I think declared value is for insurance and I'm not sure how much actually I'm paying for insurance amount if i declare it for 30K. ANybody has any idea and do not you think 3K is on bit higher side.

Rajadhani will cost u more.... If u go by any normal Express train, cost will be 2200/- + packing + loading charges. Luggage charge depends on the type of train

And regarding the insurance, declare the value to minimum 10K. That will help u to reduce ur additional cost for insurance.

Check with your insurance company on whether or not they will cover the bike in transit

Guys ... Urgent Advice Required ....

We have six motorcycles - 5 from Trivandrum and 1 from Mangalore to transport as luggage in the same train to Chandigarh. When we asked Railway @ TVM, he told that maximum weight of bikes that can be carried in a single train is 1000 kg. !!! And they don't allow to put more than 5 bikes

I don't know what to do now..... If railway allow to take all the bikes from Trivandrum thats good but I am still not sure about taking my bike from Mangalore ?????

Any Advice would be nice.... Anybody faced any such issues before ? Desperately looking for replys from exp. guys ...
