they asked me for 3500 rs for pune - jammu, distance is 2300 KMs and I am travelling through Jelum express. as I am reaching Jammu on sunday morning I want to book my bike as lagguage, as sunday they will not give any divivery of parcel as parcel office remain close on sudnay.

An thoughts guys?
I think minimum weight for calculation is 200 kg. Bangalore - Delhi 2400 kms and transportation cost is only 2200/- as luggage. 3500/- is too much.

Are you traveling in a train in Rajadhani category ?
Then cost will be higher.

If you are not in a hurry in getting ur bike, then why don't u parcel it via Railway. Hope that it will reach destination within 2 weeks

Parcel rates are lesser than luggage rates.

Through GATI, rates should be around 3K including packing charges .... (Don't ask me explanation if it is not so )

It is more. I'm taking my thunderbird with me in Rajdhani from Bangalore to Delhi around 2300KM. Agents quoted 3K, so if i bypass agent it should be around 2.5K. Why don't you talk to a railway agent also?

Thanks for you inputs.. Actually I am planning to start my leh trip, so can't seat idle in jammu and wait for my bike. another thing is I am reaching jammu on sunday morning so if i ship my bike through parcel or gati i have to wait tilll monday morning. which will deduct one day from my schedule.

even i was wonder about BABU's 300 KG funda. I have got information from railways web site that it's less then 350 CC will be considered as 200 KG.

http://www.indianrail.gov.in/Rulesra...arging_bic.pdf

I will recheck again with railways authority.

I am travelling through Jelum which is under Mail/ Express category.

You can take your bike in the same train you are travelling. At least that's what i'm doing, so no waiting for bike.

I packed all our vehicles vehicles to Chandigarh via GATI. Cost per bike was 2950/- including packing (from Banaglore). Just ~500/- extra compared to railway luggage rate. They will pack helmet also along with the bike - good for us, no headache of carrying helmet.

They will give 15% discount if you can convince them that you are a student.

In the train which we are going to travel, 60% of the luggage van space is given for contract. I don't want to take the risk of packing our bikes @ remaining 40% along with other passenger luggages.
