I am thinking of traveling to Khajuraho, either this month or the next.
It will be my first visit to a tourist destination in Madhya Pradesh and wanted some info and help in planning my trip. 1. Which route to take from Delhi? 2. How are the road conditions? 3. Places worth visiting, in and around Khajuraho and en route? 4. Where to stay and eat? 5. I guess weather would be similar to that of Delhi so I should carry woolens? 6. Any other tips/things I need to know? |

In case you want to ride all the way, stop overnight at Orchha - its a beautiful place. Gwalior fort is also worth visiting. |

Will try my best to avoid it
![]() Problem is that there is no direct train to Khajuraho, I will have to first take the train to somewhere and then take bus/taxi to reach Khajuraho. |

Hi Yogesh, I did not know the answer so I referred to google maps, you will have to change from NH2 to NH3. NH3 will take you to Gwalior.
but I am not sure if highway changed can happen via an Agra bypass |

You will have to take the bypass. Make sure though that after Jhansi you are stocked up with water and food - might be even toilet tissue rolls. The roads are usually good, though there are few bad stretches but none of them will be over 500-800 mts. I went there in June this year, actually bypassed it while going to Bandhavgarh. Also remember there is a sharp right towards Khajuraho, and there is just a one feet by one feet board with direction written. Though the road was being made, hopefully it should be over and proper directions have been put up. This is how the turn looks like - we turned and clicked one pic: ![]() Preview of bad roads - usually where ever you find villages! ![]() Below would show you what kind of roads to expect - small and EMPTY!! ![]() ![]() Rivers would have a calming affect on you. If possible take a break and dip your legs in the cold water. The rivers are surprisingly clean - unlike Ganga or Yamuna over here. ![]() Hope this helps slightly! |
