Default Sikkim-Bhutan!

http://www.bootan.com/bhutan/RainbowPhoto/default.shtml

Something prompted to find out about Bhutan and came across this. They are asking for Cars but I guess you can talk to them about Bikes ro go in a car. Remember, this is a B-C-M touring. We can have more 'Car' trips here! I guess it will be a great opportunity to see one of the most untouched lands in the world.

Our man Sumit Bajaj(crimson) did ride to Bhutan on his Honda Unicorn in 2006! I have been there too as a kid, but yes, Bhutan remains a "top priority" in my list of "places I must ride to".

p.s. More car trips are more than welcome in BCMTouring

Cheers,
Shamik

I know about Sumit's trip. It was after he was coming back from IIM. Right? I still have the claim for first 'Trans-country' drive on bcmtouring!

This trip is like a year away and you guys can plan it. No kidding. May this be the launchpad for some bcmtouring publicity!

I have been to Bhutan once but I was just 14 years old then. Would like to explore a lot now.

The only problem with this tour is that only 2 seats are left as of today.

We can always organize such trips. Our Ladakh 2007 is gonna be a big one.

Default Do we need a VISA?

Do Indians need a VISA for Bhutan? INR is an accepted currency there but are Indians accepted without a VISA?

As per my knowledge only a permit is needed for the Indian citizens, which is easily available at the border.

Waiting for Sumit to post more info on this.

No Indians don't need VISA, you only need to get permit for yourself & also for your vehicle. To get permit you need to carry passport size photographs.

The permits get issued at the border town of Phuntsholing. This side of the border is Jaigaon , West Bengal. Inorder to go there one must reach Siliguri & then leave early to reach Jaigaon/Phuntsholing, around 3-4 hrs journey. Then apply for permit & relax for rest of te day. get the permit either late evening on the same day or early next day & leave for Thimphu/paro.

Bhutan has just one road which connects main citys but they are all in good state (Maintained by BRO), infact they were constructing 4 lane last year when i was there.

For People those who are interested in traveling in real 4x4 can get a lot of options from Phuntsholing bcoz in Bhutan you will see all foreign SUV's running from land cruiser, vitara, prado etc. Mostly its prado.

One will really enjoy riding or driving in Bhutan.
