Small update from my side Yogesh.
Ambala-chd stretch is now 4 lane, so you need not go through Fatehgarh Sahib. However I am told that Chd-Ropar stretch can be a pain, therefore people can take the alternate route if they are approach chd around 11am or so which is rush time |

Tanveer, there is road goes from ambala to banur (after 10-12 kms on NH-1 from ambala) and banur to kharar. How is this road to bypass chd?

If you want to bypass chd the best way is to enter Punjab, and then head towards Morinda.
Road is excellent. From Morinda take the Ropar highway, not via Kurali, but there is another small road which becomes a scenic highway through villages Banur Kharar road is a minor highway, and I have never used it It is a diversion on the Rajpura-Zirakpur highway |

I suggest you to take Ambala-Chd-Kharar road, as this is now in very good shape and will take 1:15hrs to reach kharar.

On a working day, chd Madhya marg gets very clogged. So you can waste lot of time in chd.
Moreover there are overzealous cops ready to pounce on out of state vehicles. |

statistics;
Ambala-zirakpur-chd-kharar-rupnagar = 90 kms. Ambala-rajpura-sirhind-morinda-rupnagar = 97 kms. not much diffrence, but on other hand there are some small towns to cross on sirhind-rupnagar road like ; bassi pathana, morinda and fatehgarh sahib - which may take more time...what say? |
