I am in the ends of a trip plan to Leh via Manali.
bcm is simply amazing for all what i got from here. I still am concerned with regards to titbits here and there. Start - Late Aug Early Sept Time Limts - No Constraints Medi - Bikes Weather expected - ??? Day temp would be fine but what i fail to get from any where is what sort of clothing would the riding require with regards to ambient wind or air temp. Would a balaclava be required for manali leh for the riding...??? How about availability of drinkable water enroute..... are there streams which can be used as a source....??? Reliability of the petrol pump at Tandi...?? Is it advisable to carry and camp on ones own.... on the manali leh route...?? Lanslides and rain......?? How friendly is the army at sarchu.... can we camp near them...?? Bike Mixture setting.... ??... any specifics.....Recomendations...... For an estimate..... how expensive is Food on the Route..... |

Fuel quality of petrol pump at Tandi is very unpredictable. So, its better to top up from Manali and carry extra fuel (quantity depends on the FE of your bike). Rain can happen anytime but the landslides are'nt all that often but you can't rule them out completely too. About the fuel-air mixture setting, its best to get your bike from a good mechanic at start and not to touch them at all after that. In order to get it better, you might end up completely messed up with the setting. Food though is obviously costlier than in plains but nothing that will give you a shock like other tourist places. However, it will more depend on your choice of the eatery. Best of Luck for your Aniruddh. When are you leaving? Whats your ride? I am also heading out for Leh this August end on 28th. I am riding Delhi reg blue R15. Hope to see you on the way. |

Anirudh (?), first and foremost, welcome to BCMTouring.

Dressing in layers is best as it allows to add/remove layers based on how cold/hot you are feeling. Top layer should preferably be made of something which wind and waterproof. Quote:

Usually easily available, unless there has been a landslide or strike. Though quality isn't all that good. Quote:
Depends on your luck. Quote:

Amit welcome to BCMTouring, towards the end of September, the weather becomes unpredictable and how much cold/harsh weather you face would depend on your luck. If you can do the trip a bit early on, it would be better else it can certainly be done at that time.

As per my knowledge, no. Btw what is your itinerary, maybe we can suggest a few alternations to make it happen.
