HOW MUCH FUEL TO CARRY?
Hai Gurus,

If you are plannig run to Padum/Zanskar on a Scorpio which would give around 10.5 KMPH on the plains on long distance how much fuel to carry?

Up there I guess if I calculate around 8KMPH with a tank capacity 45 ltrs, I would need around 70 ltrs?

Kargin - Trespone - 25
Trespone - Sanku - 17
Sanku - Panikhar - 25
Panikhar -Tangole - 6
Tangole- Parkachik - 25
Parkachik-Rangdum-32
Rangdum-PensiLa -27
PansiLa-Ating -60
Ating-Sani-15
Sni-Padum - 8
Padum -Bardan-12

About 250 one way and round 500 and some runaround of say 50 kms, total of 550 Kms, Kargil -Padum -Kargil.

Another important question is whether to carry the Diesel inside the cab or on the roof? Heard reports of people actually suffering /feelding giddy from Diesel fumes when kept inside the cabin? Does the altitude have a great impact on the volutility of Diesel up there?

If I carry it on the roof rack (which can be installed) that would be the best option, but I don't want to carry weight on top of a truck which has a high centre of gravity on a rough trail. What say?

Hitanshu.........I am paranoid ?

Thanks in advance for the info.

Happy Driving,

Re: HOW MUCH FUEL TO CARRY?
Add a stint to Zangla and you are looking at 600+kms

Ps. which containers are you planning to use to carry the diesel?

Re: HOW MUCH FUEL TO CARRY?
I have seen few imported SUV/MUV with "attachement" on the back door. I would easily carry about 25 lts of diesel. I hope your car has spare wheel in the bottom and not at the back.

Moreover recheck about the tank capacity. My palio has capacity of 37-38 lts. It should be atleast some thing around 50 lts in your Scorpio.

Re: HOW MUCH FUEL TO CARRY?
Yogeshbhai,

I haven't a clue....... never have carried fuel. I have to fix a roof rack and procure the containers. Any suggestions as to what is ideal?

Prasham.... I think its 45, however I'll check the manual tonight and let you know what it says.

My spare is on the bottom, no fixtures on the back door to carry anything. Roof rack looks like a better bet. I think I'll have to carry at least two 25 ltr jerry cans to do this trail.

Thanks for the inputs.

Happy Driving,

Check with any reputed accessory dealer in your town, or else if there's showroom of mitsubishi/toyota in your city, contact them and ask regarding it. I saw this facility in a MUV of Toyota (car was imported) used by offical of Red Cross when they had rented a bunglow in my society. Alternately ask some fabrication guy and I am sure he will find some idea.

DESI JUGGAD: Ever seen arrangement for carrying briefcase on bikes ??? Yeah the stand behind the right lag, with little modifications, it would fit well (on roof as well as on back door) Enquire fabrication guy about it. Wouldn't that be a great idea.

Re: HOW MUCH FUEL TO CARRY?
Great idea, let me crank up with my fabrication guy. I was thinking of taking off my last row (its front facing and can be taken off compleately with a pull and a click) and fabricating a cage like structure inside it to keep things wired up for the rough terrain.

Your idea gives me a different tac to attack......

Don't remove any seats, especially the long ones... It would be of great help if someone's isn't feeling well during the journey...

Re: HOW MUCH FUEL TO CARRY?
Best option would be the metal fuel containers, which are used by the army. I think you can find them in Gopi Nath market; they have a 20+ liter capacity.

Also the idea suggested by Prasham of fixing the fuel can on the rear door would be the best solution, because if you place it on the roof, you would have to put that 25+ kg can on top and then get it down.

Putting it inside the vehicle is the last thing you want to do and in such a scenario, try and carry large plastic bags to entirely cover the container so that fumes don’t escape that easily.
