Hi, I am a resident of chandigarh and this is the route i have decided upon, after reading posts of users of this site. So, kindly help out with any changes you think should be made and information about accomodation as well. Please make the changes keeping in mind that i need to be in the mobile phone network coverage area for maximum possible days. I am using airtel prepaid SIM. I'll be grateful.

Day 1: 0400hrs(depart) : chandigarh – manali(night stay)
Day 2: 0600hrs(depart): manali-rohtang la-keylong(night stay)
Day 3: 0700hrs(depart): keylong-sarchu(camp stay)
Day 4: 0700hrs(depart): sarchu-pang(plz inform about accomodation here?)
Day 5: 0700hrs(depart): pang-leh
Day 6: 0700hrs(depart): leh-khardung la-leh
Day 7: 0700hrs(depart): leh city tour
Day 8: 0700hrs(depart): leh-pang
Day 9: 0700hrs(depart): pang-sarchu
Day 10: 0700hrs(depart): sarchu-manali
Day 11:0700hrs(depart): manali-chandigarh

You can comfortably do Sarchu-Leh in one day. Ditto return.
First day at Leh, RELAX, acclimatize, get permits etc.

I doubt Airtel PREPAID will work at Leh. You'll have to make it post-paid.

Pang has dhaba tents which can accommodate 12 people per tent. Their are around a dozen tents so accommodation will not be a problem.

One suggestion: rather than doing the Leh-Manali-Chandigarh while coming back try doing the Leh-Srinagar-Jammu-Chandigarh. Will take the same time and also will let you see some beautiful mountains and especially the Kashmir valley.

Pang has dhaba tents which can accommodate 12 people per tent. Their are around a dozen tents so accommodation will not be a problem.

One suggestion: rather than doing the Leh-Manali-Chandigarh while coming back try doing the Leh-Srinagar-Jammu-Chandigarh. Will take the same time and also will let you see some beautiful mountains and especially the Kashmir valley.

yup gud suggestion....but i've heard that the srinagar route is not that safe and time consuming as the army men stop you for checking dozens of times.

Day 3: 0700hrs(depart): keylong-sarchu (camp stay)
Day 4: 0700hrs(depart): sarchu-Leh (Laods of options from Hotels to Guest houses)
Day 5: 0700hrs(depart): leh - permit, local sight seeing
Day 6: 0700hrs(depart): leh-khardung la-leh
Day 7: 0700hrs(depart): leh - Pangong Tso - Leh
Day 8: 0700hrs(depart): Leh - Kargil
Day 9: 0700hrs(depart): Kargil - Srinagar
Day 10: 0700hrs(depart): Srinagar-Jammu/Pathankot
Day 11:0700hrs(depart): Jammu/Pathankot - Delhi

When you say you are stopped many times for checking by Army, it means there is enough of security & thus its safe

They are various check posts only during the independence day period.

Rest of the time (unless their is any major conflict going on the LOC/Border) there is one check post close to Drass where you will be asked to make entry.

Major checkposts along Leh-Srinagar-Jammu (might be some in srinagar)

Between Drass and Zozilla (before entering the kashmir valley)
Between Srinagar - Jammu (before exiting Kashmir valley)

Only documents are checked. Most of the times they are happy to see people traveling in these regions. You might get invited for tea too

btw one more question i have won't AMS show its effect if i do 261kms in a day i.e sarchu-leh?
