how will be the weather in july?? does it rain heavily ?? do we need to carry waterproof jackets/umbrella/windsheaters n all??

also, temp at sarchu frequently drops near 0...so do we need to carry sleeping bags/blankets? will it be provided by camp owners?

Expect lots of rain till you cross Baralacha La, beyond which it depends on your luck. However it shouldn’t be a problem in a taxi or car, carry umbrellas as they would be easier to manage.

hi dreamtrip,
to start with, i would like to wish you guys all the best. we are also doing a similar trip starting 25 June 09 (jammu-sri-drass-kargil-zanskar-leh-sarchu-keylong-batal-kaza-tabo-pooh-sangla------home) but on bikes. we will finish around 20 Jul or so. That would mean we would be travelling ahead of you. you may like to call me at 9697501111 (cell would work in kargil and leh beyong zozila and we will be crosssing zozila on 27th).
do not worry too much about weather. we did manali-leh-nubra-and almost complete changthang last year in august. it kept on raining non stop till sarchu and snowed on tanglang la too...but then that is where fun lies. you will get enough slots for shooting pics. you would have a variety in the end.
i read an advise being given to you to travel via chumathang-tso moriri-tso kar- more-pang. please follow that. it would be worth it. Tanglang la will be left out but that is nothing when compared with these beautiful water bodies.

I am planning to stay at Kothi village instead of Manali.....as it is on the way to Manali-Rohtang Pass, we wont find any traffic related difficulties while heading to Keylong via Rohtang Pass.....also it is quite scenic nd beautiful...is it advisable??

How do I book in advance for HP PWD Rest House at Kothi??
I saw in some thread tht it requires some permits from district engineer!!!

However do keep in mind that apart from Tanglang La, you won’t really be missing out on anything and Tso Moriri - Chumathang - Upshi route is quite nice as well.

The biggest thing you need to worry in this case would be AMS, as both Tso Kar and Tso Moriri are slightly higher in altitude than Pang which in turn is higher than Sarchu.

If you do decide to go with this plan, make sure you read this article and also read the opinions and experiences of fellow travelers posted in it and take necessary precautions to try and acclimatize as quickly as possible.
Hi Yogesh,

How can we get permits to visit Tso kar and Tso moriri beforehand. our plan is to visit these 2 lakes and then proceed to Pangong and Leh. Last year we did the route other way round and had collected Permits from Leh. But this time round, we won't be collecting the permits beforehand. Completely stuck up here as to how we will get the permits beforehand. Please share any info if you have on this.
