Trip to leh
We r 2 frends planning for a trip from delhi to leh in 1st week of august. Wanna ask few questions.................
1) Is it a good idea to take 2 bikes?
2) We will be goin on Pulsar (180cc) new, Karizma (new), r these bikes good for this route?
3) We have got 11 days and 10000 rs/head. Is the time & budget sufficient fr this trip?
We will be goin via. manali.......................

Re: Trip to leh
aadmi ek, thread do.. bahut na-insafi hai..
on a serious note i dont think you will have any sort of problem with the bikes you have mentioned. As for taking the 1 bike or 2, it depends on how comfortable are you with riding with/being the pillion. 2 bikes is always better. the budget is more than enough unless you are planning to stay in some 5 stars..

Re: Trip to leh
Sorry lucky for not being able to reply to your pm earlier.
With regards to your questions:
1. It would be better to take two bikes instead both of you going on the same motorcycle. Since the journey is hard and tiring, especially on a pillion.
2. Pulsar and Karizma would be easily able to do this journey if they are in good condition, I have taken my almost year old Pulsar 180 to Ladakh three times in past three years.
3. With regards to days and budget, they are more than enough if you only plan to cover Khardung La. Though my recommendation would be to follow the following itinerary:
Day 1: Delhi – Manali
Day 2: Manali – Keylong/Jispa
Day 3: Keylong/Jispa – Sarchu/Pang
Day 4: Sarchu/Pang – Leh
Day 5: Leh (rest and get the permits (plan the trip in such a way that it ensure it’s not a Sunday or holiday, otherwise you wont be able to arrange the permits.))
Day 6: Leh – Khardung La – Leh
Day 7: Leh – Pang/Sarchu or Leh - Kargil
Day 8: Pang/Sarchu – Jispa/Keylong or Kargil – Srinagar
Day 9: Jispa/Keylong – Manali or Srinagar – Jammu/Pathankot
Day 10: Manali – Delhi or Jammu/Pathankot – Delhi
You can keep one day as spare or you can use it to go to the Nubra Valley and spend a night there.

Re: Trip to leh
I understand that you shall have daily expense average of around 800 bucks, everything inclusive... So 10 k is fine... But do keep some extra cash on hand for any unexpected condition... Plus both the bikes you mentioned are performance bikes and I understand that spares required, if any would be a bit costly, especially in this region... So carry 5k extra...

Re: Trip to leh
Did that in 2006, only thing is every thing has to go according to the plan for this to happen i.e. no landslides or problem with bridges etc.
