Another Pulsar Queries Thread! =)
Dear members,
I needed some help from members on this forum. Incase I'm repeating things that have been asked repeatedly on this forum, my apologies for the same and kindly link me to an appropriate thread. I've a pulsar, 150cc, 2006 model. I'm quite satisfied with the performance of the bike. Other than the fact that water seeps into the water tank during rains, i've not encountered any other problems as such until now. I need help regarding a couple of things.
1. Any solutions for the water seeping into the tank problem? one of the mechanics i went to put the plastic cover over the tank lid, but that doesnt seem to have solved the problem. Suggestions welcome.
2. I also really dont like the front fairing of the bike. I'd prefer a round headlamp. Read on some thread on some forums about fitting the Avenger 180 coilplate on the pulsar. I wanted to know a reliable mechanic in mumbai to do the same, someone to whom i wouldnt need to expain what to do coz i'm a complete noob to mechanics. Also, when i get the coil plate installed, I want to fit a) either the round headlamp of the old pulsar or b) the avenger headlamp. Kindly advise me on the costs related to doing both of them and which one you think would look better.
3. My last query is about fitting a fatter rear tyre. Kindly advise me on what's the max size that can be fit without affecting the performance or mileage significantly. Slight difference is okay, just that it shouldnt be too drastic. Also, please mention costs involved. I'm actually quite happy with the current tyre config in terms of performance and handling and this query is purely for aesthetics.
I'd also like to know a reliable and trustworthy mechanic in mumbai/navi mumbai who could help me with all of the above. Thanks for all your help and going through such a long list of queries.
Regards,
Rohan.

There is small hole on the side of the main large hole for filling up petrol. This is used to get rid of the water which comes inside, usually this gets blocked due to dirt and can be cleared with the help of little bit of petrol and if need be, a small metal wire. Go to the service center ask them to clean it.

Best bet would be to ask a mechanic working at Bajaj service center, to do this outside the service center (it’s barely five minutes job).
For fixing round headlamp, there are few more modifications needed like the clamp that will hold the headlight in place etc. Any competent mechanic would be able to do that, you can expect to spend around 1200-1500 for the entire job including coil plate, round headlamp, clamps etc.

If you are happy with the performance of the tyres, then don’t change it. Adding a fatter tyre will have a negative impact on performance and mileage and also on the engine. But if you still want to go with it, it is usually best to get no more than one size bigger tyre i.e. 110 instead of 100 and 3.5 instead of 3.00

Re: Another Pulsar Queries Thread! =)
also, i had one more query, my bike goes at 85 kmph at an approx of 6500rpm to 7000rpm.. i wanted to know how long can you run the bike at such rpm without puttin stress on the engine or it having a negative impact on the engine.. the bike doesnt really seem that stressed but i had an rx100 earlier so my reference point maybe completely off the mark.. would be glad if someone could shed some light on this.. thanks!

Should be possible, however Pulsar one would give brighter output since it is a clear lens one.

No problem at all, at that speed, you can easily cruise all day long as long as the bike is in good condition and engine oil is in decent condition.

Belapur Bajaj Service.. on the back side of the Belapur station..near IDBI bank..
The supervisors name is Amit Patil (not our Darth Lucifer).. he is very good at diagnosing the problems..
i take my bike from matunga to belapur for servicing as well as other issues...

Re: Another Pulsar Queries Thread! =)
thank you for all your responses.. i changed the headlight to a round one over the weekend.. it cost me 1000 bucks to do that along with regular servicing.. din change the coil yet as i'm not sure about how competent my mechanic is in doing something like that.. i like the way it looks now... i'm happy =)
Also thanks for info on the belapur bajaj service center.. i will keep that in mind in the future..

Rohan don't worry, changing the coil is quite easy. Any one can do it, heck if you want, you can do it yourself!

Re: Another Pulsar Queries Thread! =)
Thanks yogesh,. so, if i tell my mechanic, that change the coil plate to the avenger 180 coil plate, that's all he needs to know? or should i tell him something else also. like is it a direct fit? remove one part and put another types...
Also, the fairing setup i had, had a 35W halogen bulb and the set up now, has a big round bulb.. so is the light that i've put now, less powerful than the one i had initially?
Also, when i change the coil, i'd need to change the bulb too right? I read somewhere that the reflector will heat up and melt if you do all that.. i was not sure and quite apprehensive so i let it be at the time being.. i thought that maybe i'll have it done by someone who's already done that kind of suff before.. like, i'd rather have an okay light than an unreliable one.. kindly advise..
