Yes that's right the nearest competitor to a Bajaj Pulsar 180 is Bajaj Pulsar 180 itself! You might be wondering why I am saying this, well facts speak for themselves. At present there is no other motorcycle available in the category of Bajaj Pulsar 180 and the 180 has had almost no competition since it was launched five years back, it might have tried to compete with Karizma in the days of 180 DTSI v1 (first upgrade) but with the advent of 180DTSI v2 (upgrade two) and then with the launch of 180DTSI v2.1 and 180DTSI v3, Bajaj clearly showed that it had no intention of pitting a 178.6cc bike against a 223cc one.
However this hasn't stopped Bajaj from upgrading the 180 on a regular basis and it has become a yearly cycle now. In fact Bajaj is the only motorcycle manufacturer who follows this practice in India and Pulsar 180 is the only motorcycle that receives this treatment. By doing so Bajaj is following the international trend of updating the motorcycle every year with work done on not only on the looks, but also on aspects like handling, drivability, performance, efficiency and refinement. While some might say that other manufactures don't need to upgrade models every year because their motorcycles are perfect, but the fact is no motorcycle in this world is perfect, let alone an Indian motorcycle. Still Bajaj is the only manufactures to realize this and use it to generate sales and also keep people interested in its products. So much so that Pulsars are only a step away from becoming a cult motorcycle and the day Bajaj decides to take that step, we will have another name in the list of cult motorcycles with the likes of Yamaha RD 350, Yamaha Rx 100 and Bullets? |

reading the first lines i can say only a tvs scooty pep can beat a tvs scooty pep because its the only sub 80cc scooty popular in market.
and mind you with every so called upgrade the speed and pickup factor was degraded . even ur 4 year old classic can beat my 180v 2.1 v1 has better 0-60 timing then a v2.(autocar dec04) let alone a usual top speed margin of around 5-15kmph. so may be its like - only a new 180 can be beaten by a older 180 on second thoughts there is engine refinement and better handling and more technical refinements. but... i just love to hate it.

Well the bike India is claiming in this issue that the new 180 v3/ug3/phantom will have a topend of 121kmph which is 3kmph higher than the model it has replaced

BAL claims the digi speedo is accurate to 2kmph of true speed, I will accept the top speed as 119kmph. That makes it 1kmph faster than the model it succeeds, which was clocked at 118kmph. Though Karizma displaces more cubic centimetres, remember it is much heavier than the Pulsar and generates only .2bhp more( on papers).
Kudos to Bajaj for their regular upgrades to the Pulsar, others should or rather must follow suit as we as consumers deserve more than what we are getting for our money. NEWS: BAL's Q2 growth rate has been dismal, guess all those "Value Added Features" are taking a big toll on their gross margin ! GP is up by only 12% and PAT is up by only 10%, and Operating EBITDA is at 15.1%, down from 17% from Q2 of 2005-2006. Cheers, Shamik |

on speedo the speed was 123kmph, so if bajaj is telling the truth then the true speed would have been 121kmph

I heard its 121kmph on the speedo, anyways I dont give a rats arse about what Bike India claims, prints, etc. The bike looks smashing and its good value for money but it wont catch the 180V1 and the Karizma, thats my take on it.
