Pulsar dtsi Engine Overhaul
Hello, I am a new member of this community. I have a 2005 model Pulsar dtsi V2 which has done 48000 km. I have maintained my bike very nicely. But lately I have felt that the pickup is not what it used to be. Also the bike has started drinking engine oil. I have to change engine oil every 800 km then also only 600 ml of oil comes out of engine. I get my bike serviced regularly at Castrol Bike zone(Noida). They told me to get the piston ring, cylinder kit, timing chain, clutch plate etc changed. They have quoted me Rs.6500 for the same which i feel is too much. Kindly suggest a good mechanic in delhi where i can get my bike serviced other than authorised service station. What would be the approximate cost for the same. Thank you.

Re: Pulsar dtsi Engine Overhaul
Just take it to an authorized service center, the cylinder kit which includes piston, rings and cylinder block costs Rs. 1800-1900, with service charges and clutch plates and timing chain it shouldn’t be more than Rs. 4500-5000. Getting it changed from an authorized service center would give you peace of mind knowing that the parts are genuine and in case of any problem arises with the changed parts in a week or two, they would fix it for free even if the bike is out of warranty (got my exhaust changed that way).
If you still want to get your bike fixed from an outside mechanic, let me know and I’ll pm you the number of mechanic I take my motorcycle to, he is slightly expensive but does a good job. Oh yes, he is based in West Delhi, so you will have to come here.

Re: Pulsar dtsi Engine Overhaul
Why dont you buy the parts yourself from Bajaj and get the work done at Bikezone if you trust them.
Seen quite a few engine overhauls being done at Bikezone in sec 58 during my visits...dont know if oyu go to that one or the other one.

Re: Pulsar dtsi Engine Overhaul
Thank You. I am thinking of buying the parts myself from bajaj and taking it to a good mechanic. I have seen the amount of traffic at the authorised service centres so i am not sure whether they can do justice to my bike. Also I have some bad experience with Diwan Auto.

Re: Pulsar dtsi Engine Overhaul
I had planned to get my engine overhauled but kept postponing it due to work. Finally last week took my bike to a mechanic. He checked my bike and gave me a list of parts which are needed.
1. Gasket set.
2. Piston/cly kit
3. valves set
4. valve spring set
5. stem seals
6. clutch wheel
7. clutch hub
8. steel plates
9. clutch plates
10. Timing chain and pads
Got the spare parts myself from Sagar in karol bagh. Total cost of spare parts came to Rs. 2600/. Took my bike early next day to the mechanic. The mechanic got to work and soon whole engine assembly was dismantled. he knew his job and was working fast. After reassembling the engine he tried to remove the spark plugs to clean it but the left spark plug was stuck. he tried to remove it delicately but managed to miss the screw. he had to take that part to retread the screw. Finally after 6 hours my bike was ready.
The labour charge of mechanic was Rs. 500/ . I also got front disk pad, rear brake shoe, spark plugs, and accelerator cable changed. he charged me Rs. 900 for these including the retreading work. So the total cost is Rs 4000. He has asked me not to go over 50 kmph for first 500 kms and change the engine oil after 500 kms.
Now my bike feels like new and has new energy to it. I have to control myself not to go over 50 kmph.
Overall i am satisfied with my decision to get the engine work done and my choice of mechanic.
kindly advice whether the cost and the mechanic advise about running in is appropriate.

Re: Pulsar dtsi Engine Overhaul
Yup he is right regarding running in, don't rip till you change the engine oil.

This seems slightly expensive, though it might be due to retreading, but I still feel it is slightly expensive. Rest is ok.

Re: Pulsar dtsi Engine Overhaul
Hello Everyone, I have done around 1000 kms since engine job. Kept speed within 50kmph for first 500km and then changed the engine oil. After that kept speed within 60kmph. Is it ok to go on long drive (>200km) and run the bike at 80-90kmph on long stretch. Kindly advise.
