Running HIDs directly off battery
Does running HID directly off battery severely drain it as I am experiencing it currently with xenons running for 7 hrs+ along with the engine running on a test ride.
Either something is wrong with the battery not getting charged or HID is severely draining it due to incorrect circuit.
Have rest of you guys directly connected it to battery or have done some ac to dc juggad for headlamp ????
Please help!!!!

Re: Running HIDs directly off battery
Seems the alternator is unable to deliver sufficient current. It has to be able to deliver what the HIDs require PLUS some extra for charging the battery.

Do you have a fuse and a relay in the circuit?

Re: Running HIDs directly off battery
How does having a fuse/relay help in reducing the load on battery?

Re: Running HIDs directly off battery
You need to change the AC/DC charger to the one from Bullet which is a dedicated DC charger. Alternatively you might want to get your coil plate shorted to ensure it supplies extra current to the battery (which was previously being sent to the headlight).

Fuse does not,but somehow i had faced this issue of battery draining when I had removed the relay since it went bad, after plugging it back in it was working fine with no issue with battery getting drained.

Re: Running HIDs directly off battery
Any other difference in terms of wiring with relay? AFAIK relay is only the switching device. How it could help take off the load from battery puzzles me..

Re: Running HIDs directly off battery
Shorting the headlamp coil is a good idea .It drains the current unneccesarily.Ill check if its done else have it done.
The bad part just before the headlight assembly is ECU in P200 and the mechanic just doesnt want to do anything with it

Re: Running HIDs directly off battery
If do that then do keep in mind that you will have to make the entire bike system DC. Regarding ECU thing, I don't think it would any major difference because it would be the same way in other motorcycles as well. Check if you can find a mechanic who fits HIDs on regular basis or try talking to Doc Arnob, he might help you find a solution.

A fuse and a relay will CERTAINLY not reduce the drain on the battery.
May I ask how/in what way these devices will help?
