Suggestions Required
Hi All, After all the torture my bike has gone thru, i believe it needs an overhauling. The bike has done 20000km + and i havent done nothing apart from servicing and changing the rear tyre. Now, i am facing the following problems:
*Lack of Acceleration: The machine doesnt pick up that well, acceleration quite sluggish...Doesnt go above 7.5K RPM/100 km.(Perhaps due to clutch slippage)
*Engine heats up quicky
*Very poor average ~35kmpl
*Poor performance
*Screwed up Fronlight (True for all stock HH Xtremes)
So i believe I get the following things changed: The Spark plug, the Air Filter and the Clutch Plates.
What else?
Info needed on the above, so that the baby performs the way it did after the first service ....Suggestions welcome

All the symptoms point toward clutch slippage.
If you get the above items done, you should be OK.

Re: Suggestions Required
Last when i was on a ride, there was a stretch where i'd been on an average 90kph for about 20-25 minutes, after which the bike refused to accelerate as before. I had to take a couple frequent breaks of 15 minutes each, before which the bike became somewhat normal. My best guess is, this must be because of engine heating, and I wonder if this is the case with all bikes or just the Xtreme
Moreover (usually, even before that trip) the engine felt rough beyond 55-60 kph and would not go beyond 100kph (as you've mentioned). Said that to my mechanic, and he increased the petrol release slightly at last servicing, which smoothed the engine (but that comes at a price of lesser average at high speeds, but the pleasure of riding is close to what was at first servicing)
Poor average? yeah.. i do agree to some extent. Because i've to be overtly nice to it to get 45-48 kph.... keeping speeds below 55-58 kph in city commute, using clutch/brakes to the least and thus trying to utilize the momentum of the bike at that gear... which sometimes is just frustrating. But i've noticed that the petrol also makes a difference. (i always fill the "normal" non-premium petrol, but the filling station adjoining Ghansoli rly station in Navi Mumbai seems to give me a better average)
mine has done over 22k kms

Re: Suggestions Required
This is not supposed to happen to Honda Engines, and that too in just 20 - 22K kms. But yes, as Anup sir said, the symptoms point to clutch problems in case of Vaibhav, but about R3X, I am not too sure. May be you should try using a different brand of engine oil..

Re: Suggestions Required
Thanks for the replies ppl, @R3X: mileage 45-48 ... i have never, repeat, never reached that figure with my bike, but thats ok..i m not that civilized when it comes to riding
@Salil: Last service changed from Power 1 to Elf motogold, 20 50...realized was better off with Power1...
Clutch plates toh i m sure badalvane hi padenge ... i was jus wondering if this is the major reason for the lag, or something else ...
Achha now temmi, hav heard a lot bout Iridium spark plugs and K&N filters .... Are they worth givin a shot? and available for the extreme? ( Pulsar ke toh ive seen)

Re: Suggestions Required
I agree with Anup sir regarding clutch slippage, I guess Sach took a toll on your bike’s clutch plates as well.
K&N just gives a mental increase in HP, nothing more.
Iridium sparkplugs, well have heard a lot about it that it improves performance etc. etc. but here is what the company who manufactures it, says, Frequently Asked Questions
Stick to stock setup, they are the best for touring and usually more reliable.

I agree with what YS has said about these.
Brings to mind the adage: A fool and his money are soon parted!

Re: Suggestions Required
lets have a meet again.
then we can inspect the bike
On a serious note.
my zma has done 56K now
though it has not been to Leh as of now-it has been tortured quite a lot both on and off the road.
Its still running well on stock, piston and bore
All your bike needs is Decarb and then Motul 300V
