Hi
Can someone with experience tell me if a well maintained TVS Victor GL can be driven in Sikkim ? ( I would be opting for a thicker tyre ) I plan to parcel the bike till NJP railway station and drive from there to Sikkim - my plans also include travel into North Sikkim I dont fancy renting out a bullet there for the below reasosn 1) Rental cost too high 2) even after a high rental cost the bike you get is not reliable and you may have to shell out money from your pocket for its maitaince - its always a lesser headache to take your own bike Also I dont have any plans to sell my Victor and buy an avanger or bullet in near future due to financial constraint Thanks |

I think its entirely possible. HOW! members had went there long back and one guy had a Caliber 115 for the trip!! You need to learn some carb tuning if you plan to take on north Sikkim, since the increased height has lower oxygen content and calls for a optimized air-fuel mixture (lean, if I am not wrong). Also, prefer to keep the luggage with the last hotel you stay and take the bare essentials for climbs like Gurudogmar.
What are your tentative dates for the trip? I am planning sometime in April-May, but could ride out now if all the places are open for visit (read Gurudogmar and Nathu La). |

Dimitriz I suggest you stop worrying about your bike,If victor can do LEH then it can surely also do North eastern states.Just start planning for luggage, spares, service and other things.Dont worry about your bike,I too have a victor and be sure to be gentle on the throttle while climbing ghats and hills it will not go as fast as other bikes,if u try u might end up with a bent valve or broken engine.Ride her in her limits and she will never give way, maintain her love her and have faith in her. Please change old parts before going for a long drive.Like clutch, chain sprockets and engine timing chain.

TIMAP Thanks for your encouragement and help in easing my worries
I am a bit confused by your answer though Were you stating that YOU have done a Ladhak trip on your TVS ( if so awesome and can you share the details ) If you are under the impression that I have done a Ladhak trip on my bike , then I have not - I have used a 4x4 on all my trips up north By easing on throttle : I presume you are referring to keep the throttle low & steady and let the bike go up slowly in its own rhythm in 2/3 gear - and not to push it during climb resulting in knocking Last edited by Dimitrz; 26-12-09 at 01:41 PM. |
