I agree. ANYTHING is better than an iPod! Anyone who has used one knows!

I have become the unclejee that fills up the iPods for a lot of my daughters' friends! Particularly video content!

the problem with sony systems is that after a couple of years of use, the lens weakens, and by then warranty is also gone. So its a big financial setback.
Moreover, servicing is very expensive. Try getting Samsung etc., as servicing is slighty cheaper, and durability is manifold.

However ideally in todays digital world get a ipod or something, and get a nice high powered doc for it for 15-20K from Onkyo, JBL etc., that should be good enough.

Well, it is a bit late for that. I had the lens factor in mind though. Once that happens, I'll simply add a DVD player and use the Sony thing as an Amp. Doc, as far as playing MP3s go, I can use the USB port and a thumb drive for that, instead of putting strain on the CD/DVD player. The USB port can also be used for DIVx. So even if the DVD player goes bad, I'll still be able to use the system in other ways.

Anyone knows if DIVx can encode audio in DTS/Dolby or 5.1 channel format?

AFAIK, yes. Exactly which format (AC-3?) I'm not sure. But DIVx does support surround sound with mp3.

divX format supports 5 channel sound. No issues.
But you need a divx player with a 5.1 output, and your sony should have 5.1 input for proper effect.
Good standalong DVD players with 5.1 output cost around 3000rs.

The melt down seems to be very selective! Some people are not the least affected!
