Hey All..

I took up Rupinder's idea and thought about starting something to debate on.. It can be a never ending discussion..

I really don't expect you to watch Indian Idol 4 and Im not even arguing on the existence of the show.. But it's just about what happened on the show.. I was watching the auditions where Kailash Kher, Javed Akthar, Sonali Bendre and Annu Malik usually select who moves on.. However, Alka Yagnik was filling in for Kailash kher on that episode..

One of this participant came up for her chance to move on to the next round.. young girl.. just around 17 years old..

She finished her singing.. and was selected to move on.. but it was a 3:1 decision for her to move forward.. Annu Malik.. predictable opposing the decision..

Once you watch it.. What would your decision be if you happened to be the judge for that contestant?

Don't know and frankly don't care, the only thing I watch on the idiot box is News and Laughter Challenge, apart from occasional movie and few old English serials and that is when the TV is barely couple of feet away from me.

I am loving the auditions of Indian Idol... Its more comic than "laughter challenge" or "comdey circus"... So many funny charaters coming for auditions, exhibiting all kinda foolish skills & displaying every other talent than Singing... Its really great laughter dose...


PS : on serious note, my fav is Laughter Challenge, which is over last Friday.

Help me here! Thought people wanted to discuss something lighter than the usual mad things happening everywhere..

But somehow I felt this was a strong topic.. at first glance it might just be about some Indian Idol sad saga.. which is always on the 'idiot box'... but its these kind of shows on the box that land up feeding I don't know how many people..

The question might not really be interesting but if you try looking deeper than its the life of a 17 year old we are talking about.. Its her career setting chance.. and a lots of things at stake..

For the first part, there will be varied opinions on the matter.

For the PS part, egos and not perception will forever remain a part of any debate, with so many people of all kinds involved. There will never really be consensus on any subject. A debate merely produces each participant's personal/subjective views. Many cannot rise beyond this and do an 'objective' analysis.

And what, indeed, is objective?!
There is a different truth for different people!

As far as i know there is 4-level filtering before a contestant gets to sing in front of these celebrity judges (2 phone auditions, 1 live audition in front of some other judge, and then finally these judges). Told to me by a friend who has participated in last season.

So, anybody you see on your TV screen making the funniest gestures while singing in the auditions has surely taken a handsome amount of money, for sure. Or the Sony people are the dumbest people on this planet.

this is done with the only intention of increasing TRPs; otherwise who's gonna watch the hundreds of 'just above average' singers coming one by one.

Even shows like Kaun banega crore pati and likes have screening processes.. You can't just call.. answer and get lucky.. Your called to an auditions location and then checked to see how you would be once your put on TV.. only if you can add value.. then they let you move forward..

This is not entirely true.. There are many many people who just do 'funny' things to be on TV.. IMPO Sony does not really have to spend any penny to get such people..

These people just happen to be accompanying their serious singing friends.. or really wasted people.. Many of them are not even aware of the concept and they 'believe' they can perform..

This happens on almost all the auditions of any reality shows..
