HATS OFF to this FAMILY... They travelled from Kolkota to whole North India on this Rikshaw..This person Satyen believes that travel & adventure is not only for richie richs.. But also for the people who don't have enough money in their pockets.. Its about true determination..

The states which he had gone till June were Rajasthan, Himachal Pradesh, and after that he had a plans to go to punjab and Maa Vaishno devi as well.

He started in March from kolkata & had a plan to complete the trip in August. This person did not have much money in hand, so for food & shelter they used to take help from temples & gurudwaras. He said people are so kind that he did not even spend a single penny for food & stay as yet.

He went to rohtang pass as well. On steep slopes his wife use to push rikshaw to help his man. Was carrying all the appreciation letters from the higher authorities of all the states he has travelled. The reason why he chose to travel this year was that his daughter had to start schooling after that.

Isn't this family an example of extreme optimism..........!!!

(As told by a friend of mine, Ridhi. She met this family in Manali June this year)

Amazing resilience & a die-hard spirit Good luck to the family, may they go far!

India needs many more like them. Is the elderly gentleman with white hair a part of their group or just a bystander?

Very intelligent family - Indeed, travel is the best form of education one can provide to the children.

Admire his sheer determination and faith to be able to carry off his dream journey without bothering about resources!

Also proves our country's hospitality - the way the entire family was looked after in the various states - indeed, we all do live in harmony!!

Awesome ka bhi baap hai yeh aadmi. Makes the rest of us look small and the terrains we've conquered joke - all we do is just sit and twirl the throttle!

Wow. I know what you mean Hitanshu, was about the write something along the same lines as you have written. I'm just honoured to read about their journey. At a loss for words really.

Re: Meet this traveller
Huh, frankly speaking I'm ashamed of myself. Apart from this I have nothing to say.

P.S. I have heard of a man living nearby Kolkata who travels on his feet only. This way he has covered most of India, the entire coastal line and many many more. I have been told that he has even went to Leh from Kolkata on foot. I have a plan to meet this man during Puja and will try to post a few lines about him too.

P.P.S. I think now he is 70+ and still ventures out on his feet, SOLO.

I bow down to each and every one of these enthusiasts. They give a new meaning to "Don't think what you can do, just go for what you want to do".

Re: Meet this traveller
Sorry, the only one to disagree with this initiative!

Are we going to now allow cycle rickshaws as well on our mountain roads?!!
Bad enough with underpowered and overloaded trucks, we'll now have to contend with cycle rickshaws!!?
No wonder we are in the mess we are! This country is the true 'FREE FOR ALL'!!

There are busses plying everywhere in the mountains.
And IF one cannot afford the bus, just wait, earn a wee bit more, then travel by bus. Or hitch hike!

Was this trip truly undertaken because of the love of travel?

I suspect ulterior motives in this trip being undertaken in this fashion.

Pardon me, but I have expressed my personal view without fear or favour.
