Talk on photographing Himalayas at IHC on Saturday
I won't be able to make it for my stupid office, so forwarding an interesting invite for an event on Saturday. Interested people please go ahead.

Date: Saturday 13 September 2008
Time: 7.00 p.m.
Venue: Gulmohar Hall, India Habitat Centre, New Delhi
Contact : Maninder Kohli, Hony. Local Secretary, The Himalayan Club, Delhi Section, # 9810009564

In continuation of its 80th anniversary celebrations, the Himalayan Club invites you to an illustrated talk by renowned photographer Matt Brandon.

Matt Brandon is a noted photographer whose passion for photography has taken him around the world. For the last 13 years, Matt, an American citizen, has been based in Srinagar managing his trekking company, Frontier Treks & Tours. This has provided a perfect outlet for Matt to experience and photograph the beauty of Kashmir, especially of the Kashmir Valley where he has been based. Matt is also the co-author of a coffee table book titled Kashmir: The Mystery. Matt's images have been featured in a travelling exhibition sponsored by the Indian Government for Indian embassies around the world.

In his illustrated talk on 'Treks and Travels in Kashmir', Matt will talk about and show stunning images of some well-known treks and high-altitude lakes in the Kashmir Valley. His images include some of the best-known areas of Kashmir, such as Gangabal, Kolahai, Kishansar, the Sonamarg valley and the peaks around it, Tajwas Glacier, Tajwas Peak, the hills of Nichani, the Sindh valley, and Yusmarg, among others. He will also cover some spectacular side valleys, which are usually known to only shepherds and trekkers. Through his treks, Matt has captured the Valley in all its different moods in various seasons and his images are some of the most captivating images of Kashmir seen so far. Having lived in Srinagar for the last 13 years, Matt has first-hand knowledge of the ground position in the state in terms of feasible travel and trekking routes, which he will also share with the audience.

As a special bonus, Matt will be accompanied by David duChemin, who is a highly regarded photographer from Canada

David will conclude the evening by offering practical tips on improving your photographs in a mountain setting. David will highlight his views through some of his best pictures that he has captured when out in the mountains, including the Kashmir Valley.

I think you need to register in advance, don't know about costs etc though. The number in the invite should help.

Re: Talk on photographing Himalayas at IHC on Saturday
Its free for all

Btw, today also looks quite interesting.

Talk by Mick Fowler on 12th September

Mick Fowler is widely regarded as one of the foremost climbers in the world today. He has made first ascents on numerous routes that have been among the hardest of their day. Mick has climbed all the classic north walls, including the North Face of the Eiger and Matterhorn among others. Notable climbs in the Himalaya include Taweche NE Pillar (Nepal), Golden Pillar of Spantik (Pakistan), Hunza Peak (Pakistan), Cerro Kishtwar NW Face (India), Changabang North Face (India), Arwa Tower, NW Face (India), Siguniang NW Face (China), Kajaqiao West Face (Tibet), and Manamcho NW ridge (Tibet). Mick was voted the "Mountaineers' Mountaineer" in the Sunday supplement to the UK national newspaper The Observer. In 2003, he and Paul Ramsden were the first British team to win the prestigious Piolet d'Or (France) and Golden Piton (USA) awards (for the 'best' new climb of the year) for their route on Siguniang. He has authored two hugely popular books: Vertical Pleasure (1995) and On Thin Ice (2005) and has been Vice President of the Alpine Club and a management committee member of the Mount Everest Foundation.

In his illustrated lecture on the 'Matterhorns of Tibet', Mick will cover four trips to mountains that stand out as prominently as the 'real' Matterhorn in Switzerland. Siguniang (6250m) in the Qionglai range, visited by Mick in 2002, is now in Sichuan Province, and the North West Face contains perhaps the longest technical ice climb in the world. Grosvenor (6300m) in the Minya Konka region of Sichuan Province was unclimbed in 2003 when Mick and Andy Cave tried the spectacular North West Face---a line that will excite the adventurous and remains unclimbed. Finally, in the Tibet Autonomous Region, the Nyainkentanghla East range contains the highest concentration of spectacular unclimbed 6000m mountains in the world. Mick focuses here on his ascents of two of the most spectacular, Kajaqiao (6550m) and Manamcho (6264m). Mick's lecture, supplemented by superb photographs, will highlight the fact that there are marvellous opportunities for exciting exploratory climbing in this culturally interesting and beautiful part of the world.

Date: Friday 12 September 2008 Time: 7.00 p.m. Venue: Gulmohar Hall, India Habitat Centre, New Delhi

Re: Talk on photographing Himalayas at IHC on Saturday
Thanks Yogesh...
Am interested in both. But I have never been to IHC, so if somebody has been there. Is there an entry fee or is it only for members kind of place. What do we need to attend that, register for that. Do they have sufficient proper parking for visitors.
Am interested in today evening's talk.
cheers...

Re: Talk on photographing Himalayas at IHC on Saturday
Prem IHC is open to all building. However to enter any particular Hall, there might be some fees put up by organizers of event in that particular... In this case its free, as mentioned by Yogesh... there's ample of parking space in IHC.. Take a left from Purana Quilla (If coming from Nizamuddin bridge side) towards Moolchand & it'll be on your left after some 1km.
