Manik and I went to Photoimaging Asia 2006 today; for starters you have to buy the ticket to enter Pragati Madan despite registering for Photoimaging Asia! Secondly you have to again fill out a form and attach your email registration printout else you will be charged Rs 30 for entering halls where Photoimaging Asia is taking place.

Once you are through with all the formalities and enter the halls it is actually quite good. All the major camera and camera equipment manufacturers are there. I brought a lens cleaning kit and Manik brought a card reader.

Any one thinking of buying a SD card should definitely Tech-Coms stall, 512mb card is available for Rs. 700 and 1gb for Rs. 850!

When buying cards for your camera make sure you buy reliable brands and high speed ones. You dont want to be stuck with a bad card on a nice tour!

PS: 1GB hi-speed cards were available in an exhibition here (KL) for aout 700 . I bought a 2GB 150x card for about 2.3k INR

SKSy_Biker the biggest problem here is the lack of information provided on the card package and known to the sales persons. They dont know what speed the cards and neither that informations in printed on the card. Only few of the cards are available with the speed rating, rest have only a mention of size.

True.. but you can safely assume that if the manufacturer is not boasting of a hi speed card its definetly below 50x card (maybe 20-30x). Not to mention the reliability in harsh conditions..

We being tourers need a card that is more resistant to conditions like dust, humidity and extreme temperatures. Did you know that Sandisk Extreme range of cards can work in near (or even sub) zero temps. Others may also work, but they are not designed/guaranteed to.

Few hunderds extra spent now is worth more than all that pics you may loose after that most memorable trip of yours. Just my 2 paisa.

BTW any good lenses on sale there?

The only problem is the price difference here normally is much much more than few hundred bucks! For people interested in faster cards there is sandisk extreme 3 cf cards, dont know about the cost though. in any case I have 2x 512 mb kingston cards

As for lenses, sigma is there so is tameron, not to mention lot of vendors offerings as well.
