Default Post Processing or In-Camera Effect?

I would like to put a query on this board. Sometimes we see photographs in mono (black & white) with a little splash of color/s in it. I assume that this can be done in photoshop or other software, but I was wondering if that can be done in-camera as well? I tried it with my DSC-H7 camera, but colour seems to get spread out beyond the particular object.

Mods, if this thread is not suitable here, may please move it!

I don't think you can do this with In-camera effect.

Your assumption is correct, selective coloring is best done in post processing as it require manual intervention. I am not aware of any camera that does it in built.

Even if they do they can never give you the details that can be achieved with photoshop or other softwares.

Its actually a piece of cake with Photoshop. How exactly did you try to do this on the H7 ?

As quite a few out here quite rightly pointed out that the process is known as selective coloring. In Photoshop/Capture NX its easy. My take on in camera processing is, Dont ever try it. A otherwise decent picture will be royally...aheemm...err...But maam please throw some light on how you managed it your cam, I mean I have been using Nikon's SLRs they have features like D-lighting and all, but not selective coloring.

@RKB how is GIMP to use, easy??

Might not be as easy as PS, and may have less features, but its a wonderful tool, I only use GIMP, and I am a fan, there so many plug-ins available.

And its free

Yes, I mean to say 'selective colouring' like the way you depicted in the photo.

Amit, I tried the option 'touch-up'->'centre colouring' (something like that), where you may choose your centre which will be in colour, rest will be in monochrome. But, since you can not manipulate the radius of the centre, it somehow spreads to other objects which you actually want in monochrome. Am I clear?
