Hi All,
Ten years back on 26th July 2009 Indian Army finally completed its Op Vijay to evict Paki intruders from Kargil, Drass and other places between Zozi La and Fotu La. They were infact right on the hills and looking down the highway NH 1D. They were thus able to rain down death over everything passing through it. Literally Indian agencies were caught with their pants down but later Indian Army / AF fought courageously and won back the hills. Many of us are visiting Leh-Kargil-Drass axis and will be seeing the war memorials on the way. Please post your pictures related to that. Even pictures of Op Vijay celebrations elsewhere or connected to Op Vijay are welcome. Here are few of mine............

5th and 6th Pic - Captured Pakistani Equipments
7th Pic - Chorbat La war memorial. Between Nubra and Batalik sector. Top right hill is Haneef Sub sector. 8th Pic - Under enemy observation. They did find me a lucrative target but perhaps cease fire forced them not to fire upon. 9th Pict - War Gallery at Drass War memorial, Drass

10th Pic – Ladakh Scouts War memorial at Leh. Before 1999 war Ladakh Scouts were not properly organized and regular Indian Army troops. They were classified as Karokaram and Nubra Wing. Their exemplary bravery and courage in 1999 made Generals rethink and Ladakh Scouts were made proper regiment. They are now 5 battalions strong.
11th Pic – A highway war memorial plaque of Mahar regiment. Indian Army has lost many men since 1947-48 all along the LoC in shelling by Paki artillery. It has stopped after cease fire truce on 26th Nov 2006. But you know it takes nothing to erupt, especially between India and Pak. 12th Pic – Matayien. A sleepy meadow just before Joji La towards Leh. I am getting air for my car on highway and Pakis were on the snow capped hill on top left. The place is just above the famous and sacred Dropadi Kund (a small pond along Drass River and highway). Sikh soldiers captured 2 Pakis while washing their a$$ in the Kund. So it means they were not even close but also confident. At Tololing top and Tiger hill they were also coming down to Drass to buy fresh rations, medicines, using ISD to call home, hair cutting etc. 13th Pic – Shahid Kalash. This pot notionally carries ashes of the martyrs during Op Vijay. At Drass war memorial. 14th Pic – Zorawar Fort. This is old fort of Gen Zorawar Singh. He was a Dogra (from plains of Jammu) ruler and did many armed expeditions to Leh and Tibet. Traditional Ladakhis still see him as an invader. But he was instrumental in keeping Ladakh with erstwhile state of Jammu and Kashmir and thus in India after independence. This fort is under Army and has a museum of Zorawar Singh also. A light and sound show every Wednesday is very interesting to see and know the history.
