Helmet
Hey guys!

I am looking for a good full face helmet which I can use with my spectacles on. I have checked out many a GPone and AGV's, but wearing specs with them is a major problem. Lemme' know if you guys know of any good helmet with which wearing specs isnt a problem. It would be nice if you could include the price and the address of the shop. This is needed on a priority basis!

Thanks

P.S. Just back from Spiti. Kunzum to Gramphoo - man o man! (for those in the know).

a. where's the pics?

b. Get lenses man. Mine have UV, antiglare, high water content etc built in. Specs are a pain in general. And pretty irritating to drive with, at night.

c. Only option is if you're medium build, so to speak. Then a large AGV can fit right over the helmet

My choice ... Studs Ninja ... I have been suing it for around 4 years and have faced no problems any time )

The chin guard rises up to allow u to easily put on ur spectacles or goggles. And best of all if u stop at road side to have nimbu pani on a hot day .. u don't need to take ur helmet off ... just raise the chin guard )

And on slow leisure drive in the monsoons ... u can raise the guard above ur head to have the wind in the face experience of open face helmets.

I have had quite a few falls in it and have come out unscratched ...

cost approx 850, cheaper in military canteen ( i think around 600) and front visor is 150 bucks ...

down side ... is a lil heavy ... but u get used to it .. I have done 15 hr continuous rides on it without any neck strain ... ur milage may vary. visor doesn't have UV, etc protection. Does not have inner removable lining, but i wash it none the less )

I hope it helps.

It won't protect you in a reasonably bad crash. I have zero faith in those teensy locks on the side - they could snap when my 95kg body impacts the ground headfirst!, say in a collision where I'm thrown from the saddle.

ditto.
over a period of time, they tend to get loose, and are prone to break even during sidewise fall from a table! my cousin's helmet suffered a damage this way only!

best (read safest) helmets are the ones which are without any naatak/tamaasha.

yaar hitanshu i tried wearin lenses but they dont suit my eyes.. within an hour or so they start gettin very irritatin n eye start watering. so not suitable for long rides.
shashank i have been using a studds jade helmet.. not very stylish in terms of looks like the gp1's,agv's or ninja but comfortable when you are wearin specs..

I have TWO Bravos (silver/black) - one owned, one company gifted

Bherry naish. Decent stuff should you not want to buy AGVs.

@Sparsh: Lenses come in different varieties. I use monthly contacts nowadays which cost me about 1000-1100 for 8-9 months. (Use over 45 days, with every sixth day no lenses to allow eyes to be a bit freer). They are quite soft.

Earlier, I had PureCon GMD3 lenses ('03-'06) which are annual lenses - about 900-1000 for a pair that has full UV, high water content (~55%) and some other thingamajigs I dont recall.

The issues that one experiences in initial days:
a. Dryness - This is part percieved, part real. Lenses being put on eyes, reduces the tear supply to eyes. With good high water content lenses, that is not an issue. However, in first few days, you tend to feel it a bit.
b. Higher senstivity to light: This is again something you just need to live through (happens to some). Wear sunglasses (you anyways need them to protect your eyes from dust) if you go out in those days.
c. Watering: Partly due to sensitive eyes, dust, cheaper lens (low water content) and partly because your eyes have never had lenses - they tend to react almost as if it were a speck of dirt - they water copiously. Couple of days and things should be just fine.

Over time, both issues reduce in intensity, and go away in like a week or two. You have to persist - like the first time, it took me 1.5 hours to put the lenses, nowadays <2 mins

Instead, try wearing them on weekend mornings only for a coupla weekends, and then see how your eyes get used to the freedom and comfort. Due to specs, our heads move in response to the environment, not our eyes, as is natural. Wearing lenses, brings back the flexibility, albeit with a initial disorientation.
