Default MapmyIndia Lx130 review

The unit was just delivered to me. Will post a full review after it charges up and I am considering a trip to Dharamsala to 'test' the prep on my car for Leh in September. It is quite small!

Have not figured out how to add captions to image attachments, so adding them here.

1629: The entire package, unboxed.
1630: The unit starting up.
1631: The main menu
1632: Default view inside the navigation option
1633: Size comparison: it is a wee bit smaller than the Marlboro Lights pack.
1634: The various connection options (standard USB) and the microSD slot.
1635: Lengthwise comparison
1636: Main menu
1637: Main menu contd.
1638: Trip menu
1639: Bottom menu with time being shown
1640: Bottom menu with speed being shown
1641: Text input for search
1642: The universal hourglass wait
1643: Search results
1644: T-B-T Navigation starts.

Quick observations from a spin last night:

The unit is a bit on the lighter side and charges up quite fast.

Screen is way too bright in the night, will need adjustments between day and night, but very clear and crisp.

Signal lock is pretty quick, did not take more than 2 minutes for me.

Rerouting is again very very fast, especially compared to the phone-based devices.

Search sucks, partly due to us being spoiled by Google.

Touchscreen is more like a pokescreen, you'll need to use a bit of pressure or the tip of your fingernails. Double poking is more the norm. Do not expect iPhone quality here.

It can be charged three ways: The wall charger, the in-car charger, USB.

There are no Indian language options for the voice prompts or the menu.

Info on warranty and updates. I am copy-pasting from the support email:

Quote:
The warranty on the hardware is for 6 months from date of purchase and life long on the software/application.

We keep updating our map date time to time for which we will intimate you if you have registered the device on our website. We are not charging for the update currently, customer has to pay 500/- which is for the SD card, shipping and handling charges only.
