price is okay and so is almost everything except the fact that it lasts for only 10K kms!!!
and the harsh fact that u've to live w/o a chain cover!!!

thats very awkward!!!

Sachin the reason it wears off so soon is due to the soft compound used in it construction which provides excellent grip. And I think it is a fair trade off for the performance it delivers.

As for removing the chain cover, it had to be done to accommodate oversized FKR 120/80x18 (stock tyre is 100/90x1 on my motorcycle (pulsar 180 classic); where as in Salil?s motorcycle (pulsar 180 DTSI v1) nothing of this sort was needed. This is one of the factors which drastically increase chain wear especially in the monsoon season. I wish it came in the stock 100/80 size then it would get 10/10 from me.

Akshay I don?t know if there is any dual purpose tubeless tyre available here, if it is then most probably the only place you will find it is at KRP. But my recommendation would be to go for tubed verity for dual purpose, since I feel the tube tires are better at socking up bumps.

Hey Yogesh

I am planning to buy a FKR 120/80X18 for my pulsar 180 classic since i am planning to go to leh this aug.
I had some doubts... how much hieght increase will happen after installing the FKR?

How harsh does the ride get due to this?

I was also thinking of installing the gas shocks from the new DTSi on to the Pulsar 180 classic.. can it be done and will it neutralize the harshness caused by the increased hieght(FKR)?

And how is the grip on tarmac .. coz after the trip i dont think the FKR will see any more off-roading.

cheers

Hi Popsha, first of all welcome to BCM Touring. Please use the Introduction Forum to tell us a little about your self .

Coming back to your query, due to the FKR the height would increase by half an inch or so. But the ride doesn?t gets too harsh due to it. But the suspension would be doing overtime and its life will reduce a little due to it and so will the life of the chain set.

As for putting gas shocks, well I wouldn?t recommend them. Over time they develop leaks especially if you are into offroading and touring.

However if you wish to put them on your 180, then you would have to change your 180 classics swing arm to either DTSI v1 or v2 swing arm. Which means you would have to change a lot of things; chain set, brake rod, bush etc. last I heard the whole procedure would cost some where around 3-4k.

As for the grip of FKR on the tarmac, well this is the reason I love them so much. They perform just as well onroad as they do offroad! I know it is hard to believe, but due to the soft compound used in their construction they provide excellent grip on the tarmac, especially while cornering!

Oh yeah one bad thing, you will have to remove the chain cover since 120 is an oversize for 180?s. Stil I would say go for FKR, they wont let you down!

Thanks Yogesh for the advice

The whole affair seems to cost a lot 3-4 k for the swingarm and other stuff..
I needed a sturdy tyre just for the Leh trip ... as I will be buying a new bike after that ( may be a Pulsar 2XX).
The FKR wont go the new bike as its a 17inch rim.

So is is really advicable to spend so much on swingarm and other stuff just for the tyre.
Is there something available in off-roading tyres which can be used for the trip.

Eric I am not saying you need to do all these mods to fit FKR! I haven?t done any mods on my motorcycle, apart from removing the chain cover. For me the ride quality hasn?t deteriorated much and there has been no drop in top end and mileage! According to me FKR is the perfect tyre for the Ladakh ride, so much so I will be getting another one before this years ride!

All the mods I have mentioned are needed if you want to put the gas shocks on your 180.

Thanks for the advices...

I am going for the FKR this weekend. I am getting those for 1100 (Tyre + Tube) and also i m getting the 2.75X18 for the front ... a new zapper-c is out
Also dropping the idea of the new gas-shocks

Also one last thing .. are O-ring chains available in the market (the one which are coming with the new pulsar) as that will be perfect after i remove the chain cover.

And when r u going for Leh?
