For your eyes only
I wear spectacles
-1 in left eye, and +2.5 cylindrical with 140 axis in right(Right eye fiasco is a result of childhood injury).
Long time back I used to wear a contact in left eye, and in daytime I could wear sunglasses(ray ban aviator was my fav).
Soon due to dust issues etc., and moreover doc told me not a good idea to neglect the right eye, I started wearing glasses.
Now this meant glasses in harsh sunlight too.
Of course the answer was photochromatic, but after trying out a pair, I did not like them much.
So it was black to plain sunglasses, while my aviators wasted away.
Finally wife suggested a trip to GKB opticals, where I had gotten my normal glasses, and change ray bans with prescription lenses.
After looking at lots of options, we zeroed in on polarized lenses, same shade as my ray ban, cost 2750. For me the cost was on higher side because of the right eye number.

Got them just before jaisalmer trip, and boy what a revelation.
Everything seems clearer.
Infact I could tilt my head and make out how much of the road reflection glare in the afternoon sun the sunglasses blanked out!
Drove 900kms in bright desert sun, and no issues!
Earlier even 4-5 hour sunny drive would mean tired eyes and headache due to glare from the sun. Even anti glare coating falls short.
Only downside is clicking pictures. My cam has a polarizer on, and with polarized sunglasses the viewfinder shows funny colors.
Other than that, while driving, fatigue has come down 100%, and vision is better.
No more blinding glare from the road, as polarized glasses cut down reflections from 0-100% depending upon sun position.
If anyone of you wears spectacles and does long drivers, this is one investment I would recommend.
I guess from a smaller shop if you have low number, you can get frame + lenses for around 1500-1800rs!

Re: For your eyes only
fully agree. polarised is the WAY to go.

Donno about 140 axis but you MAY be able to get yourself an affordable pair of contact lenses as well. albeit non polarized (just about/slightly more in worst case) over your current pair of specs.

PM me if you're interested, will send you contacts.

Re: For your eyes only
I used to wear contacts, but for long touring they are not an option. Dust is a major irritant, and sometimes after 8-10 hours you need to change them.
So prescription sunglasses are the route I chose.

small shops or big shops dont matter .good quality lens come from essilor or carl zeiss and all the shops get it made from them. and my advise would be to get the branded stuff cause they definetly are good

rupinder there are other good brands also apart from the above two. These are the most well known ones.
Many Indian companies make excellent optics too.

Re: For your eyes only
hmm

I use monthly contacts. CANT tour with specs EVER.

I wear lenses for 12-14 hours regularly. Maybe as your sets will be annual ones, you may need to take off after 12ish hours, but you can manage. Just be more disciplined in regular activities (~10-11 hours) and then the occasional 14 hour wearing won't hurt.

I've had contacts for five years, -5 both eyes and can't drive at night with specs with all the glares.

Re: For your eyes only
Same case with me, I got my powered Sunglasses made just before the Ladakh trip and oh boy, it was such a great thing I had. Glares were cut and the view of the mountains were much better then the normal glasses. The colors looked saturated and hence the mountain looked more colorful to my eyes. My friend's were cursing me for not telling them to get similar thing he he. One of them got one made just after the trip My glass is made of Essilor btw.
