Delhi - Mukteshwar
The route to reach this wonderful place is as follows:

Delhi - Gazipur - Hapur Bypass - Gajraula - Moradabad Bypass - Rampur -Bilaspur - Rudrapur - Haldwani - Kathgodam - Bhimtal - Mukteshwar

Since the roads arent in that good condition from Rampur - Rudrapur, a good 60 Kms, an additional route for a comfortable cruise is as follows:

Delhi - Gazipur - Hapur Bypass - Gajraula - Moradabad Bypass - Kashipur - Bazpur - Nainital - Bhawali - Mukteshwar

Distance - 360 Kms

Although this route takes slightly longer to cover due to more of hilly terrain to ride on, the sights and the scenery are more than enough to make up for the lost time and not to mention the beautiful roads which you get to ride on. Also, since this route bereft of commercial traffic to a large extent, the ride is also comparitively much safer.

The time taken to reach the destination varies from 10 - 12 hours depending on the route taken, making it a 3 day trip.

Mukteshwar, the 4th abode of Lord Shiva is a sleepy little town located on a ridge spanning two mountains in Uttaranchal. Mukteshwar is not known as a tourist destination, which makes it an ideal spot for rest & recreation and recuperation. The cool & clean mountain air is ideal for relaxing with a good book or a trek or generally lazing around in your room or just gazing at the astounding 360 degree views of the mountains.

Chauli Ki Jaali, a wind swept hole with magical powers to aid in conception, located near the Mukteshwar Dham Temple offers a mind boggling view of the Almora Town 2000 Ft below and of the Nepalese Himalayas on the horizon on a clear day. the PWD Lawns 500 Mtrs ahead offer some breathtaking views of the snow capped peaks of Nanda Devi, Panchachuli, Trishul and the Annapurna mountains.

Another establishment which makes Mukteshwar famous is the Indian Veterinary Research institute, the biggest of its kind in India. The IVRI also has planted and maintained Oak Tree groves all around to maintain the ecology and the natural habiat of the animal life there.

Hotels and Camps:

Sargakhet, 4 Kms before Mukteshwar is the hub with all hotels situated here. For those who want to rough it out with basic creature comforts, there are establishments which have year round camps in Sargakhet.

Recommendation: Red Roofs Resort, run by Pradeep Singh Bisht is by far the best hotel to stay in. This 6 room property is run with utter professionalism, but it still manages to provide that homely atmosphere, which comes as a boon to the weary travellers.
