Delhi - Munsyari
Destination: Munsyari

Route: NH 24 from Delhi – Turn Left from Rampur after crossing Hapur and Moradabad – Bilaspur – Haldwani – Kathgodam – Diversion towards Berinag from Almora –Dholchina – Thal – Kalamuni - Munsyari.

Distance: 615 kms

Type of destination:
three days or more needed are need to explore Munsyari

Description:
Once you reach Munsyari, you will be surrounded by panoramic views of peaks like Nandakot, Nandaghungti, Rambha and Shiplakot. The sun keeps playing around with the colour effects on these peaks right from dawn till dusk, Panchachulli transforms itself from red and pink during morning to yellow and burning gold as the sun goes to rest.

Places to visit: You can trek to nearby places like Khalia top (10km) which presents awesome views of Panchachulli peaks; this is also a hot skiing spot in the often snowy winters of Munsyari. Darkot, 10 Km north of Munsyari on a mountain slope, is a typical picturesque village of Bhotia tribe. Birthi falls (31 kms) is a 500 metre trek from the main road leading to Munsyari.

Tips:
Fuel stations are aplenty, advisable for Bullets, Karizmas and CBZs to tank up from Almora. Services centers for Hero Honda, Bajaj, Honda and TVS motorcycles are located in Almora.

PWD Rest House and Kumaon Mandal Vikash Nigam Tourist Lodge. Private hotels are also available.

The route is safe but you have to break your journey in between as 613 kms will be too much to ask as you are going along with your family. Few of us went there in 2006, at that time the roads were awsome till kalamuni top and there were no road at all after that.

Good news: the situation is not the same. One of my friends did it with his wife(in a taxi) in May 08 and he informed that now its black top till munsiyari.

I would suggest that you can book the KMVN guest house as you really get an awsome view. Its about 900 RS for a Delux room(Double)

Other Option: Wayfarer resorts, 1200 for a cottage (PS: The food is good)

Route: Delhi - kathgodam - Bhowali - Almoda - Sehraghat - Thal - Berinaag - Birthi Falls - Kalamun Pass - Munsiyari.

You can break your journey and stay at Almora or Bageshwar.

Cheers,
DJ

Re: Delhi - Munsyari
Almora has more options for stay and has a big market to top up supplies if traveling with a family with small kids.

From Ashram take left towards Sarai Kale Khan(just before the road leading towards DND flyway to Noida) ..& take right from under the bridge (just opposite to Indraprastha park) after Saria Kale Khan/Nizamuddin station towards Akshardham Temple.. This is NH-24 that directly leads to Hapur... Follow Ghaziabad , NH-24 sign marks without any deviation from this road..

Regarding technical details on Vehicle/Tyre/Munsyari experts will pitch in soon ..

For Car: Just check all fluids - engine oil / brake fluids / coolant levels / radiator / wash-wiper water.

For tyres : regular checkup for chips and cuts. Buy yourself a tubeless puncture repair kit. Comes for Rs 150 and fixes 5 punctures. Later you can buy the strips for Rs 10 each. This way you can fix the puncture yourself and get the tyre inflated at any shop.

Go through the car preparation guide in BCM Forum -> Cars section for detailed tips on how to get your car ready for a long trip.

Additionally, you could buy a tube of the correct size and carry that with you.
In case of a puncture at an inconvenient place, just get the tube fitted into the punctured tyre. Tubeless repair can be done when you find a competent shop/person.
