Destination: Narkanda

Route: Delhi – NH-1 – Ambala – Zirakpur Crossing – NH-22 – Kalka – Shimla – Kufri – Narkanda

Distance: 430kms

Type of destination: weekend getaway or a three – four day destination

Description: at an altitude of 8100ft Narkanda is cold even in the hot summer months making it a perfect getaway in summer for people who want to escape the heat of plains. In winter Narkanda gets covered by thick blanket of snow and becomes even more beautiful

Places to visit: Hatu Peak, Mahamaya temple (Kacheri, 7kms from Narkanda)

Tips: if you are planning to spend a night in Narkanda then try to book hotel in advance, especially in peak season since there are only a few hotels located in Narkanda.

for an alternate route you can take the diversion to Chail and from there drive/ride down to kufri and then continue toward Kufri and and then towards Narkanda. this route is more scenic and has narrower roads, so its best to avoid if you are in a hurry to reach Narkanda.

kind of secluded place, and a peaceful one I went there for few hours only .Didn't got a lot of time ,but its not a bad place for mighty view of Himalayas

1. Tani Jubbar lake
2. Thanedar apple orchards
3. Sutlej River bank(25kms)

Its a very serene, peaceful and scenic place. Visited there in 2007 for 4 days, stayed in Hotel HATU, the memories are still fresh
Would love to visit again in winters.

If you have some extra time to kill, a drive/ride to Tattapani is also advised.... hot water springs on the banks of Sutlej

that was my first ride. Did it around the same time last year. Awesome place to visit especially in the winters. We went till Rampur. I still cant forget the ride along Sutlej with the gushing water making sound.

Please give some direct route information for the alternate route. Sometimes, Kufri gets snow bogged, and traffic jams make life hell. I know there is a Chail route, but is it open?
Then there is this other route which follows low altitude and then suddenly climbs after luri area.
Can somebody who has done this tattapani route tell about the terrain and road condition, and how much extra distance?

Chail route?,you mean from Kandaghat to Kufri via chail,right?
i did this tattapani route in 2006.

You do not need to go till tattapani.

Keep going from Naldehra,until you see this bifurcation
Kingal is 85,and Narkanda is 27 from Kingal(not sure about this).
So its a long route,and in 2006 the roads from this turn till kingal were mostly uncarpeted gravel roads
