Destination: Rohru
Route: Delhi- Ambala - Kalka - Shimla - Theog - Narkanda - Kharapathar - Rohru Distance: 510kms Type of destination: 3 days or more are needed for this trip Description: A quite little town with good views. Drive/ride up to Rohru is fantastic and thereafter one can also indulge in a bit of offroading at Giriganga and on the way to Chansal Pass. Places to visit: Giriganga, Chansal pass. Tips: start early from Delhi, though roads are mostly good but one does find a few bad patches here and there. While enroute to Rohru stop at Kharapathar and from here take the diversion to Giriganga. Although the road is 6km but its offroad riding/drive all the way with few patches of loose stones thrown in. once at the top the view is fantastic and there are even cabin there where one can spend a night. Next day start for Chansal pass, try to cover as much of the road as possible, it has some fantastic views to offer. while coming back you can take this alternative route: Rohru - Batshal Pur - Baggi - Narkanda - Shimla - Ambala - Delhi Link to trip log: Rohru and Beyond: Exploring Himachal Additional link: http://hptdc.nic.in/cir0106.htm |

Dear Yogesh,
I Plan to Go By Car To Hatkoti, Rohru & Chirgaon At Diwali This Year. Is It O.K. & How Safe Are The Roads Especially From Theog Onwards. I Will Stay A Night At Theog And Start Afresh For Rohru From There. I Will Be Going With My Wife And Daughter. Also, Are There Any Alternative Good Hotels In The range Of Rs. 500.00 To Rs. 700.00 In Rohru Besides HPTDC Chanshal. |

Roads are pretty safe though there are a few rough patches in between but nothing serious unless something has changed drastically.
Not 100% sure about the guest houses, though you can always stay at the PWD guest house there. |

I found Rohru boring. There is nothing else to do except for the climb to chansal pass.
Even that is very tough with underbody kissing the road regularly due to tiny streams eroding the road Many places a car will wheelspin due to slippery terrain and steep climb. A high GC 4x2 or a 4x4 can do it |
